Fidelity Investments Slashing Valuations on Reddit, Stripe, Bytedance and Instacart

It seems like private market valuations for startups are getting slashed because of overall economic outlooks. In the past few months we have seen heavy declines in the public markets and now the private markets are following behind.

Fidelity Investments is cutting some of its portfolio company valuations.

  • Reddit valuation is down by more than a third.
  • Stripe valuation is down by about 13%
  • Bytedance valuation is down by 13%
  • Instacart is valued at half of its value from last year.

These are only private valuations inside of Fidelity and this was back in April – so its expected that these valuations have dropped even more since then.

It’s a tough time economically for everyone!

Katie Haun – Launches Haun Ventures with $1.5 billion in Capital to Invest in Crypto Startups

Katie Haun (who was previously at a16z as the head of their crypto investments division) has started her own venture firm focused on the crypto market and has raised $1.5 billion.

The capital, the largest ever for a solo female founder-led venture, is split across two funds, with the first $500M tranche set out for backing early-stage startups. The remaining $1B “accelerator” fund will focus on late-stage well-established firms across Web3.

Portfolio – Introduction

I have been running investment portfolios for a company and also some high net worth individuals for the past 5 years. Over those years I have managed to beat the S&P 500 index every year in terms of overall yearly returns. I have always had a very simple investment philosophy which revolves around Benjamin Grahams teachings with a few tweaks for the modern day (also look up to Warren Buffett).

Im going to be starting a section on here for personal finance in which I’m going to tell everywhere when I’m buying a stock – at what price and why. I hope this might give everyone a little insight into my thinking.

I have started a new category on here called Portfolio. This will be the easiest place to follow the latest happenings.

I’m hoping this just helps one other person!

Who is really the richest person in the world? Putin? A Rothschild?

Jeff Bezos is currently the wealthiest person on the planet due to his controlling stake in Amazon. (However, he has a lot of private investments also).

The wealthiest remaining Rothschild has a net worth under $2 billion. Family fortunes tend to become diluted and squandered through the generations. The Rothschild’s wealth is exaggerated by outdated, anti-semetic conspiracy theories.

Putin is certainly very wealthy, but my guess is that he couldn’t exercise full control over all the money he nominally controls without alienating his fellow oligarchs or tanking the Russian economy.

This leaves Jeff Bezos as the wealthiest person on earth.

What is the Difference between Xiaomi XIACF and XIACY?

If you searched for Xiaomi ADRs, you’ve inevitably come across both XIACF and XIACY. What’s the difference? You cannot trade XIACF as a retail investor because it’s a “privately placed” ADR under SEC Rule 144A. This means that they’re for qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) only. QIBs want and contribute to the 25x higher average trading volume than XIACY. Volume ensures there are enough buyers and sellers to trade with you. Information and services are also limited to QIBs.
