The Blog Council: Good News or just Publicity Stunt?

This is quite an interesting development, a Blog Council has been formed by some of the worlds largest companies. The companies included AccuQuote, Cisco Systems, The Coca-Cola Company, Dell, Gemstar-TV Guide, General Motors, Kaiser Permanente, Microsoft, Nokia, SAP, and Wells Fargo. The aim of the blog council is to form, create and promote the “best practices in corporate blogging”.

This topics has been really getting a lot of heat from the blogosphere in the last few days and im not totally sure why. I just see the formation of the blog council as just another publicity stunt and dont really understand the overall point and what difference they are going to make to the world of corporate blogging.

  1. Steven,

The point to the Blog Council is to provide a forum and community for big brands to meet and ‘talk shop’ with each other. It’s no different than what we used to call SIGs and user groups.

Trust me, no publicity stunt is worth the grief and sheer nastiness that’s been thrown in our direction.

    Cheers,
    Michael

Michael: Thanks for the info about the Blog Council. I still however just dont get the concept. Can you explain to me what the big brands will actually talk to each other about without giving away any little advantage they might have had in the web 2.0 age.
