Instructables: The perfect Site to Find Cool DIY Projects

Every now and again we find ourselves a little bit bored. Not quite knowing what to do. If only we had something to keep us occupied on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Well luckily for you, you have the internet. And that means you can access instructables.com – a website dedicated to giving you great projects and letting you submit your own for others.

There are several categories as you can see from the screenshot. Projects range from making your own office greenhouse to building a light up, LED word clock that literally tells you the time. Each guide comes with numerous pictures and detailed instructions. Often, if it’s related to technology, and more specifically coding or programming, then the guide creator will upload all the necessary files for you along with the guide.

MakeUseOf.com – Solutions to Problems You Never Knew Existed

makeuseof

MakeUseOf.com is a good website if you enjoy discovering new things, websites and uses for objects that you may have otherwise discounted as obsolete. So I though I’d give it a go and let you all know what I thought.  There’s no thrills, no frills. But isn’t it about time a website came along that just cave you practical information rather than a big song and dance?

The first post I seen demonstrated software that allows you to organize, edit and back up photos you take on your multiple digital cameras. It gave the pros, the cons along with a helpful narrative style that I found appealing. Further posts specified thing like Three Tips to Translate Languages and Make Use Of Guides that are free! (Nice touch)

The layout is basic and easy to navigate but I think they could ad a little more in that department. Its very forgettable but at least there is a little ‘hurrah’ in there. I also have to give them credit for developing a mobile version. It may not exactly be ground breaking but on a long train journey you’ll be glad to learn how to hit a golf ball properly – well, you get the idea!

Overall, it’s a good website but lacking in anything memorable. It has its uses but couldn’t a quick Google search fix problems? I suppose MakeUseOf gives you cool tips and solutions to problems you never noticed. 7/10

Tech News .. Which Sites Are Worth Reading

In this day and age there are so many technology weblogs out there, how do you know which ones are worth reading and which arent and dont some of these tech blog combined to strengthen their push power.

I have long been toying with ideas of how to expand Crenk and which areas will actually help readers in the overcrowded space that is tech news. There are a few ideas I will be exploring over the next few months but for the time being I am looking for some writers interested in either Guest Blogging or Lead Writing on Crenk. If you might be interested please let me know via our contact form.

Anyways back to which tech sites are worth reading. There are really 10 or so big tech news sites that are really driving traffic numbers at present, but how does a smaller blog break into the market? Techcrunch, Mashable and ReadWriteWeb are all growing fast and they are based around very professional writers and good journalists. Here at Crenk we would like to compete on traffic numbers with the above 3.

If you have a smaller technology blog and would like to help build the next large Technology Blog site, then please let me know and submit your articles or becoming a fulltime writer. With every article you submit, if the material is used you will receive credit for the article and links to your site.
