Since the Playstation Network went back online this week, there has been a huge amount of new hacking attacks on the servers, thus Im sure this isnt going to be the last time we see it all go down.

The Playstation Network is back up in the USA. Sony just flipped the switch and they want you to make sure your passwords are very secure.

This update brings back online gameplay, unlimited music on Qriocity, Netflix/Hulu access, Friends Lists, chat, Trophy comparison and PlayStation Home.

The download and installation is very quick, not taking any longer than 10 minutes. There is still no word on whether this update will be released worldwide this week.

“Our motivation for bringing this litigation was to protect our intellectual property and our consumers. We believe this settlement and the permanent injunction achieve this goal,” Sony’s general counsel, Riley Russell, said in a statement.

“It was never my intention to cause any users trouble or to make piracy easier,” said Hotz. “I’m happy to have the litigation behind me.”

It seems as though Hotz has got off scott free with no money changing hands and he promosing never to hack another Sony product ever again! Does this mean that Sony finally realised that they didn’t have a case against Hotz?

It seems as though Sony CEO Howard Stringer has stated that his company will be supplying Apple with the image sensor for their upcoming iPhone 5.

Stringer just said that their camera image sensor facility in Sendai was affected by the tsunami. Getting image sensors to Apple will be delayed.

The interesting thing here though, is Sony don’t currently make parts for Apple.

Thus, there is a lot of speculation that Sony will be making an 8mp camera sensor for the iPhone 5. This 8mp camera does make perfect sensor and Im really expecting for this to be a key upgrade to the iPhone 5.

However, is doesn’t have a 4:4:4 recording options, which should really come with a $6000 camera. It seems like camera companies still dont understand what their users are really after.

Poor old George ‘Geohot’ Hotz is now on the run in South America. Geohot is known for hacking the PS3 and is being sued by Sony. Now, Geohot seems to have been scared off by his court date and has failed to hand over various devices to Sony for inspection, despite a court telling him to do so.

“Over the last several weeks. Hotz has engaged in a campaign to thwart jurisdictional discovery at every turn – regardless of whether the Court has ordered such discovery or not. Most seriously, after Magistrate Judge Spero ordered an inspection of Hotz’s devices and ordered Hotz to appear at a deposition in California, SCEA learned that Hotz had deliberately removed integral components of his impounded hard drives prior to delivering them to a third party neutral and that Hotz is now in South America, an excuse for why he will not immediately provide the components of his hard drives as requested by the neutral.

“Hotz’s attempts to dodge this Court’s authority raise very serious questions.”

This all comes after Geohot asked the public for donations to help his legal battle, which seems to have been used to help him disappear. Why cant Sony realise that they should be hiring people like George ‘Geohot’ Hotz instead of suing them and forcing them to flee their own country in fear.

Its been reported that the PlayStation Move could be moving to the PC. The PS3 motion controller is expected to become part of a project called Move Server which will see PlayStation Move games being created for the PC which in turn, will allow the Move controller to be used on the PC.

SCEA will be holding a conference this year which will be used to explain what Move Server is all about and from what we understand now, it is being designed to let developers, academics and hobbyists all work with the controller in more unique ways.

With Sony obtaining a restraining order against hacking master George (Geohot) Hotz, it was left to KaKaRoToKS to work the magic, and the community was not disappointed. He has posted the signing keys online, and so it is now only a matter of time when custom firmwares for 3.56 are released.

CVG explains:

Wii hacker Youness Alaoui, also known as KaKaRoToKs, announced on Twitter that he’d successfully unpacked the firmware and published its signing keys, opening the door for new custom firmware to be created that would mimic the latest update and allow hacked PS3s to regain access to PSN.

This will obviously lead to another Playstation 3 firmware update from Sony as soon as possible.

Sony launched the PSP2 today and also their new Playstation Suite. The Playstation Suite is a new cross device game platform that will help to bring Playstation 1 games to Android phones and tablets.

The Playstation Suite will launch by the end of the year. Android users will be able to buy a host of different titles “in an integrated fashion through the PS store”. All games will have come with a “PlayStation Certified” mark so users can be sure they are licensed and tested before being pushed out to the store.

If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to disconnect from Apple, perhaps Sony has the option for you. It’s been rumored recently that an announcement could come, as early as tomorrow according to a post on 1up.com, on an iTunes competitor from Sony would be released on the PS3 and PSP devices, to be followed by other products in Sony’s lineup. According to the article, a reliable source from the Financial Times, states that the service will be subscription based and offer music and movies. The announcement is rumored to be made at IFA Berlin this week.

PS3 owners are already familiar with ordering and renting films from the Playstation Store, but a dedicated service across multiple platforms including their Bravia TV lines could be the next big thing to compete with Apple. The report states that while the service will be announced, it actually won’t be available until next year.

Can Sony do it? There no doubt iTunes has become the norm for many of us, but I’d like to think there’s a fighting chance for Sony in all this. Leave your comments below on whether you think this service has a chance on Sony’s products.

PSJailBreak is the USB system that we will be able to find and buy with the promise that we can run copied versions of PS3 games. The company who developed PSJailBreak says that “will never break your console” and will support all games.

But Sony simply said that they are not going to allow it. This USB gadget generates an error “8002A227” in the system, which can be detected soon as the PS3 logs in the PlayStation Store. And when this happens, Sony will ban this console (if you remember, Microsoft did same for XBOX consoles which were altered with the same purpose).

For one second you thought it was going to be as simple as connecting a USB drive to your console isn’t?

For those looking to replace their digital camera with something more powerful, or maybe you’re just looking for a big upgrade, Sony is releasing their new Cyber-shot TX9 3D camera into the wild. It was only a matter of time with all of their 3D technology research that a digital camera from Sony was the next logical step. The cyber-shot 3D is a departure from the traditional dual-lensed 3D camera of the past and manages to keep the slim design as part of its unique design.

The TX9 3D, approximately $400, remains pocket friendly and is capable of creating 3D panoramas automatically with point, click, and sweep motions of your surroundings. The days of fiddling with settings are long behind us with Sony’s latest release.

The camera also includes the following features:

• 3.5-inch LCD touch screen
• 12.2 megapixel Exmor R back-illuminated CMOS sensor
• 10fps burst shooting
• 1080i HD video recording
• Optical Steadyshot image stablization
• Carl Zeiss 4x optical zoom lens

While this camera comes with a heavy price tag, the relative offerings in feature is more than enough to warrant the purchase. While not the only 3D camera on the market, the aesthetics make this camera look like it belongs in your hands, but maybe that’s just my preference.

George Hotz

Actually he completed an important milestone a while ago; by accessing the PlayStation 3 kernel; where he found several secrets of this console, but the result of getting it hacked was not completed. Sony did not object any of his tasks, even more they encourage him to take over control of this console; but failure was at the end of his trip.

George said: “It was a cool ride, and I’ve learned a lot about a lot. Perhaps one of these days I’ll do a more formal goodbye.” Which makes us wonder about if this “retirement” it is not actually a defeated soldier who just gave up trying?

Hotz credibility was also questioned a while ago when he distributed a fake photo when he said he just hacked the iPhone 4.

Besides all that, we have to admit: Even though I’m no expert on hacking devices, the work on PlayStation 3 by Sony has been incredible.

According to Kotaku, a survey was recently held asking gamers which collections they’d love to see on the system, and the following games were listed: Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, and Yakuza. Great games, but according to 1UP.com, Sony would most likely make collections from their 1st party games such as Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, and Gran Turismo to name a few.

These HD collections would be a great way revive the franchises but also provide PS3 owners a chance to play the games that are no longer compatible with their systems. Money gouging? Perhaps, but having all the games in HD quality all on one disc is an appealing offer, especially at one price.

Floppy disks represented in the last few years, in a large part of the world, as one of the best portable storage solutions (probably it is the most suitable solutions for some people right now); but I guess after 30 years, it is a good time to say goodbye.

It might surprise you, but the year 2000 was the most profitable year for the 3.5” disks, when Sony shipped 47 million units. And the numbers for last year you may wondering: 8,5 million, with India as the highest consumer.

The low costs for other type of portable storage like the CD, DVD and USB, plus the obvious restrictions of a floppy drive (1.4mb of storage and very delicate built material) were basically the main reasons for this imminent evaporation.

The interesting note about it is that Windows XP and Windows 2003 still are one of the most used operating systems around the globe, and to install these on any new hardware you must use a floppy drive to add the necessary hard disk drives, otherwise you cannot install these OS (not including the options for rebuilding the installation media, which not all users are capable).

Evernote has been doing very well recently. It has been praised in the professional world for being the best way to make notes and store them. The iPhone and Android apps are some of the most popular downloads from their respective app stores and it appears the Evernote team knows no limits. Recently they’ve a new version (rebuilt from the ground up) and also surpassed two million users (it’s now creeping towards two and a half million).

Here’s what Evernote had to say about their new update:

“Evernote 3.5 for Windows is completely new. We rewrote it from the ground up to make it faster, more reliable, and just plain better than Evernote for Windows has ever been. Our goal was to use everything we’ve learned since our launch to make a great Evernote experience on Windows. ”

Evernote have also been busy making lots of new friends and partners in the tech world including players as big as Sony and Nokia. Every Sony laptop sold from now on will come with Evernote pre-installed and Evernote is now usable on the N900 because of a newly released plug-in! Other partnerships include:

• TimeBridge: This helps you organize better meetings. Now, you can save all your meeting notes into Evernote.
• Cliqset: Evernote and Cliqset create a permanent memory for your social streams and activity.

They ended their release on a very promising note about the iPad. Their apps have have already been a hit with iPhone users so everyone was anxious to know what they had in store for the upcoming iPad. Here’s what they said:

Sony has drummed up buzz with their concept art for the Sony Compact Alpha DSLR. It has the compact design of the Cybershot, with the ability to attach various lenses, much like the higher end, professional DSLR cameras. The design is small enough to fit in your bag, or pocket for quick everyday shots, but powerful enough to capture special events or persons when you need something professional. While not as diverse as the more professional models, this model could definitely be focused on the prosumer market, interested enough in wanting to take great pics, but not enough to spend upwards to $5,000 for a camera.

The camera would come with interchangeable lenses, AVCHD video capturing capability for some nice HD video footage, and powered by an Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor. No price tag on this concept, or even if this product will see the light of day. There’s a good chance it will be more expensive than a typical Cybershot, but less than a professional grade camera. Either way I like what it offers and would love to see this concept get off the ground.

Sony has created a line of new 3D players that you can now pair alongside your new 3D enabled TV’s. Ranging from $200-$300, the new blu-ray will now engage you with 3D to further “enhance” your moving viewing experiences. The S570 and the S470 series are unique to Sony’s lineup and offer varying experiences. The S570 will come with built in wi-fi, while the S470 requires a wireless USB adapter.
