It seems like these days you can’t go anywhere without tripping over a multitude of Twitter Apps, all of them struggling against each other vying for attention of the masses. Much like the people who use twitter. Well now it’s the turn of Filetwt.
It’s all very simple and convenient. Just put in your Twitter name and password, type in a description then upload a file. A link to that file will be posted on your twitter account.
Filetwt is a tool of convenience as it wouldn’t take too much effort to find one of the many other file uploading websites and then manually post the link to twitter yourself. That way you could have files larger than 20 megs. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the more well known uploading websites added a Tweet option.
According to the website if you sign up you can get Private Tweets, faster file uploads, updates and stuff. Personally I try not to sign up for anything if I don’t have to and the upload speed seems reasonable enough.
In the current online environment file sizes are rapidly increasing and it is becoming a lot easier to share files. Here is a list of the five most popular file sharing services available today.
Box.net – Box.net is probably the most popular file sharing service available today. Box.net provides their users with 1GB of free space, collaboration tools, web service support and rss feeds. Like many others in this Hive Five, Box.net provides direct links to files so users aren’t held up at a landing page to get their download. Box.net’s biggest drawback is its free account’s filesize limit, which sits at a rather paltry 10MB.
Drop.io – Drop.io has one of the most simplistic interfaces around and it doesn’t even require registration for use. Drop.io specialises in document sharing, offering built-in previews of everything from images to PDFs. The free account has a 100MB storage limit, so unless you’re ready to spend some cash, Drop.io is best-suited for smaller files. Make sure you keep a close eye on drop.io cause they are adding more new services every month.
Windows Live SkyDrive – Windows Live SkyDrive currently offers users a free 25GB of storage space. Although this isn’t as big as Drop.io, it is only a new service from Microsoft SkyDrive works on a folder-based system, emphasizing the ability to organize your files in personal, shared, and public folders. SkyDrive requires a Windows Live account to get started, individual uploads are limited to 50MB.
MediaFire – Users love unlimited storage, and MediaFire offers just that. The service is free, offers unlimited disk space, and requires no sign-up to use any of the site’s features. The files you upload, however, can only be up to 100MB in size.
FolderShare – FolderWShare is more of a file syncing toll than a traditional file sharing service. FolderShare lovers emphasize the ease with which they can share a folder on their desktop, then quickly sync the folder’s contents to a friend’s computer. All you have to do is set it up, then any file you drag into a shared folder is automatically replicated on computers you’re sharing folders with.

FileFactory lets you host files up to 300MB for free. You don’t have to register and there is nothing to download. Your files can be downloaded an unlimited number of times! One thing we found very annoying and spammy about FileFactory was the number of ads they have on the page.
With File Den’s free file hosting and online storage service it’s easy to share files across the internet with friends, family, work associates or anyone else. They allow our users to direct link to their files also giving you the oppurtunity to embed your files into your webpages, myspace or other social networking profiles.
Fileqube has an eye-pleasing design that shows its intentions well. When you upload a personal file it gives you a download link, a link to remove the file, and embed code to drop your file’s link on a website. The only downside is the 150MB file size, which is rather small with some of the other sites in comparison.

With the RIAA already suing teenagers for downloading pirated music, it’s time you move to the safer side and try another alternative. And yes, that ‘other’ alternative can be free and legal.
Tunerec is a web based service, that ‘records’ songs off internet radio streams and then tags them all for your convenience. Since it has to ‘record’ the streams first, it takes some time to save them in your database. But the patience is eventually rewarded. It has an iTunes like interface, where you can search for artists, songs and albums; Make playlists and also share them with friends.
Although I don’t understand why it has to ‘record’ songs for each user, and not just once for all its users, it probably doesn’t take much time as the number of songs i had last week jumped a whopping 100K this week, taking the total, as of now, to 1 Million.
It may not have all the songs you want, and likely demands patience even for those it has, the audio quality is commendable with very less buffering interuptions. As for the ‘legal’ thing you may be wondering about, the site mentions that it is completely legal and RWW also notes that Tunerec “ has worked out an agreement with the Swedish songwriters association STIM and the musicians (or at least the labels) get paid for every every song played on the service. ”
You can also invite your friends to the service and share your playlists with them.
Tunerec is currently in currently in closed beta but i was able to get into the service right away after i signed up. People living in Europe have a better option than Tunerec and that is Spotify. But sadly, Spotify is only available in Europe and will take some time untill it opens up to the U.S and rest of the world. Untill then, you have Tunerec. If you don’t like it, go buy your own CDs

Box.net, the file-sharing and storage system, has two announcements coming later today. First up is the launching of the second version of its Facebook application, followed by the announcement of its Files application being opened up as a development platform for other Facebook developers.
With version 2 of the Facebook Files application, Box.net will offer new file privacy options, which is incredibly important for Facebook users when taking on these applications (and an important consideration for developers as well). As Facebook newsfeeds and profile settings are social by default, most Facebook applications don’t allow much room for self-management tools, like calendars, to-do lists, etc. Box.net’s latest version will also work well with Facebook’s new email-out option as well.
The furthered step of opening its Files application to the developers community will encourage a new group of file-sharing applications that are designed for Facebook’s social space, as the box.net service can be integrated into these other applications. The developer’s platform is scheduled to be made available some time next month.
