Retweet Has Been Sold for Buy It Now Price of $250,000: Quite Cheap

Yesterday Retweet.com found a buyer for their site at a “buy it now” price of $250,000. Retweet is just a Tweetmeme clone, but still surprisingly has some great pageview numbers, 26 million pageviews last month to be exact.

After looking at these numbers I really think the “buy it now” price of $250,000 was quite cheap and if I had that kind of money spare Im sure I would have purchased Retweet. Retweet is of course a great domain with a site that is performing ok, but it still lacks a real identity or brand (but this could be easily changed). Mainly, the based upon the pageviews of 26 million it would only take approximately 10 months for the new owner to get their money back based upon a $1.00 CPM which is very achievable.

New Twitter ReTweet Beta

RT 1 ReTweeting is the pretty much the equivalent of digging something multiple time – only with Tweets. When most uses see a retweet it must be from somebody that they are connected with. Now however, Twitter are testing a new Beta program which changes how retweeting works.

Basically, when a person who you are indirectly connected to, I.e. a friends of a friend, tweets something and a person you’re following retweets that tweet, it will be displayed in your timeline. As a member of this Beta I think this is a great idea. I’m finding that my community has grown (almost doubled) and the retweets are always valuable and worthwhile. This is definitely of increasing the quality and social worthiness of Twitter which I approve of.

Retweet.com Is Not a Tweetmeme Killer

retweet_logoThere has been  a lot of talk recently about the new Retweet site that has launched and it has the killer domain Retweet.com. Retweet is a direct competitor to the dominant Tweetmeme, which tracks what the most popular links are on Twitter.

Retweet went live last week and has received a lot of press but for the wrong reasons. Retweet seems to have just completely copied not just the basic site design from Tweetmeme, but also the code with relation to the Retweet buttons. Im a firm believer that innovation is key to a strong technology company, however im not too sure that Retweet has even thought about this.

With a domain name like Retweet. com I would have thought that the first idea would be to start a service similar to Tweetmeme, but to also add a killer domain shortening service to the site. Retweet is a great domain in which im sure Twitter would want to be associated with. Is this such a stupid idea?
