Wal-Mart, in an effort to curb losses through falling DVD sales have decided to buy Vudu, the popular video streaming service which is installed as standard on many media devices and is used by millions of people.

The New York Times have reported that Wal-Mart have been informing various Hollywood institutions and production companies of the purchase and it will soon be in total control of the streaming service.

What little information there is about the deal seems promising. Wal-Mart will complete the deal once the creases are ironed out and Vudu will “continue developing entertainment and information delivery solutions such as Vudu Apps”.

This is quite promising an perhaps it’s just what the online entertainment industry needed. With another big player entering the field piracy is being dealt one last blow as customers demand more quality especially with the ever growing popularity of HDTV and now 3D. We’ll have more on this new takeover in the coming weeks.

After days of deliberation both parties had agreed on a price – half a billion dollars. It seemed that everyone was quite happy with the deal until the CEO of Yelp Jeremy Stoppleman notified Google over the weekend that the deal was off.

What happened?

Well nobody knows for sure but it must have taken something big for Yelp to walk away from half a billion dollars and pressure from internet giant Google. My guess is that another offer has been tabled. Obviously, Yelp wan to keep their cards close to their chest should this deal fall through and need to go back to Google. Perhaps one of Google’s rivals such as Microsoft or Apple have decided they want Yelp?

It’s the holidays, Cyber-Monday is tomorrow, Black Friday is behind us, yetpeople just can’t seem to have enough stuff. If that’s you, and you’ve scoured the likes of MySimon, and various online store sites, then perhaps you’d be interested in finding what you want via a shopping search site called Milo.

Milo is nothing particularly fascinating, nor did I find it interesting. Now perhaps there’s something magical under the hood, but I didn’t see it. I do find their slogan fairly interesting, “Find it Local, Get it Now.” I only wish were the truth.

I did a quick search for my wife on some sewing equipment she needs and it came up with nothing. Now either what she wants does not exist, or their database is not as deep as one would think, or there just simply isn’t one locally. I’m know it’s not not the first one, and the last one would be a lie because I’ve seen them in various stores already.

Just another site to search for items that crawl the same store and online sites that others do does not interest me. Now if there was a way it could crawl local community sites, Craigslist, Freecycle, and any other local posting communities, now that would be an interesting hybrid.

Until then Milo is not even a blip on my personal radar, but might be what you’re looking for if you’re looking for something new.
