Google has long had an ambition to allow all websites to load just as fast as turning a page in a book. Instead of waiting around for the government to sort out the internet speeds Google has taken it upon themselves and they will now work on a fibre network.

Well, believe it or not, soon we might all be connecting to the Internet at a speed faster than what we have right now, specifically at 1 gigabyte per second speed. That is if Google succeeds with its planned experiment that will test a better and faster ultra-high speed broadband Internet access.

Google is planning to roll this out to around 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 households in the United States. And the plan is to offer the Internet service at a very competitive price.

Specifically, what Google wants to achieve from this experiment is to find out what can be done with a faster Internet connection specifically by developers, share key lessons on what they are going to learn about building fiber networks and manage a network built on an open policy.

Right now, Google is currently asking some U.S. municipalities for information through a Request for Information (RFI) to determine where they can build the Google fiber-to-home networks.

To learn more about this experimental project, be sure to watch the attached YouTube video. It might actually help you prepare for Google’s world domination.

I was on Brian Gardner’s new project RevolutionTwo.com and previous there has been a lot of talk about this project, because he was offering free downloads but with paid support. This afternoon I went onto his new site and noticed that you can no longer download the themes for free and that they are now all paid themes. I find this a bit of a weird mood by Brian, is this because he was simply just not making any money from paid support?

I went back onto the site a couple of minutes ago and noticed that the site is now down due to a database error. Is this because it has been hacked or it Brian updating something? Anyone have any tips?

The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors.

Dmoz is owned by Netscape which now is owned by AOL. So that all being said Im finding it strange that Crenk is still missing from this directory. Is Dmoz still in operation? Do people actually use this service? Additionally, I know how to get listed in Dmoz, but doesnt matter how many times I apply nothing happens.

This is such an interesting concept design I just had to write about it. The project is called “Brick” and is from Apple and could potentially be the world’s first all-screen laptop. The project is currently being designed by Yves Behar and some concept designs are to the left.

Once seeing this project it automatically looks like a hybrid between the iPhone and a Macbook-Air.

Apple’s “Brick” would be a hybrid laptop/tablet/ebook that dispenses with a physical keyboard and trackpad in favor of a virtual, adaptive UI that blends multitouch, gestures and its own orientation to switch between different modes:

Laptop — When the Brick is held horizontally with the two screens at an angle, the bottom screen turns into a virtual keyboard and touchpad. There’s no tactile feedback for touch typists, but never mind, corrective text handily makes up for the myriad errors. The top screen acts like a regular laptop screen, except that it also is touch sensitive, and is responsive to multitouch gestures like double-tap to zoom, pinching and scrolling.

Tablet — When the two halves are opened fully they snap together in the middle to make a tablet with a continuous touch-sensitive screen. This mode is best for surfing the web, browsing and editing photos, and displaying mind-altering music visualizers.

eBook — Like laptop mode but held vertically. Each screen transforms into an electronic page for easy reading. Displays eBooks, eMags or specially laid out websites. Readers navigate by swiping the screen to turn the pages.

Tabletop — Like tablet mode but for two people. When an onscreen button is pushed, the screens are oriented for two users sitting opposite each other. Great for collaborative tasks and especially games.

And why’s it called “Brick”? Because it smashes Windows!

Welcome to the Rubicon Project. The Rubicon Project is a new product that has already received $6 million in funding and is based around the very competitive market of online advertising. About a year ago I had an idea of starting an advertising network based around an open marketplace, since then this has been done several times over and it seems when someone comes up with a new idea it is only a month or so before there are 10 of them in the market.

The Rubicon Project however is a unique advertising model that actually has ties with over 300 ad networks, including the big boys like Google, Yahoo and ValueClick.

The Rubicon Project ensures your website is making as much money as possible by optimizing it for not only the highest paying advertising company but also for demographic/geographical data.

Now unlike a few selected people I am still waiting for my Invite to their private beta. However in the mean time make sure you head over to the Rubicon Project and have a look at their 3 min. video.
