Social sharing is what has made social media and the Web 2.0 era so successful. Rather than rely on emailing content we find interesting online, we are afforded the opportunity to share that same information with a click of a button to a global audience. It’s not uncommon for stories to gain traction extremely fast due to how widespread the social networks are. Driving traffic to your site, to a specific post, has never been easier with the access to the numbers of people we have today.

That being said, I’m sure Facebook never imagined it would be in the position it is today. Currently Facebook stands at a whopping 44% of social sharing activity. That’s almost two times more than Twitter and simply dominant over Yahoo and other sharing methods. With almost half the market, data is being shared at unimaginable rates online as people “Like” “Share” or “Comment” on content that their friends are posting.

Search engines don’t even really fall onto the radar with as much that is going on in Facebook. Some pundits are event commenting how Facebook may be where future users source their information as opposed to Google, Yahoo, or other methods. Twitter with it’s millions of users and faster response rate has nothing on Facebook.

So do you find yourself sharing more dominantly on Facebook than any of your other networks? Is this a shift in how people are consuming content and a tell tale sign of how people are engaging online? Should be interesting to see how long this can keep up and where Facebook will go with this.

ReelSurfer Makes Video Searching Easy

Ever watched a movie clip around two years prior then needed it for a project or something? Me too.

Things like documentaries, famous speeches and old fashioned shows are hard to find on sites like YouTube and Vreel – especially when all you have to go on is a quote or extract.

ReelSurfer however aims to change all that. They take a huge volume of content from the Internet and break each video up into thirty second segments. Then, they index all spoken words on the video as though they were text. Thus, when you search for your quote the thirty second segment pops up. You may be asking, why do they bother splitting up the video at all? Well this is purely so you’ll hear your keywords right away. Imagine watching an entire movie whilst praying it’s the right one!

This is similar to AnyClip, however there is one core difference. ReelSurfer will allow you to create your own account for your company or college thus allowing you to upload meeting, lectures etc… This would come in very handy for students looking for information on a chosen topic while revising or an employee quickly catching up on the conference call he missed.

Boxee Box Offers Streaming Digital Content

There’s a lot of us out there who have cut the cable bill for the open, a al carte world of streaming digital media. Most of us are consuming content on sites like YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, or any other site providing quality content for the end user. Whether it’s music, video, or photos, streaming media seems to be the way of the future. And while there are other competitors out there, one seems to stand heads and shoulders above the rest…the key word being “seems.”

Boxee Box has been announced and from what I read and what I see, it looks nice. Refraining from the hype, I prefer to look under the hood and the specs of the device itself. A fan of the Roku player, I can already tell that this device offers a whole lot more than the simple Roku player offers, and I’m talking premium package here. Boxee Box will connect to your TV and share all the video, photo, and music folders on your computer, giving you an intimate look at information you never would have thought could be attached to your files. Covers, lyrics, artist and album information is pulled from online resources to give your media the best look possible.

Video is pulled from a variety of sources including the popular Hulu, where you can watch the latest episodes of your favorite shows straight from your living room. It can pull from Netflix, YouTube, and a variety of other streaming video sites and watch data in formats that I’ve never even come across myself.

I’m excited to see what Boxee box can do in the streaming media market, and below you’ll find a video that will share a little more about this device.

Zemanta Launches Public API

Zemanta has long been a favorite addition to my blogging processes. This interesting little addition to the browser builds in the ability include photos, links, and tags for all of your media inserts. By installing Zemanta, I have reduced the time it takes to track down information to include, and by setting up some personal settings I’m sure to find what I need when I need it.

The New

Zemanta has always offered what it thinks you will need in terms of photos and links, but today Zemanta is launching their public API which will now allow users to build a “user suggestion engine.”

Funding for the company has come from Union Square Ventures, Eden Ventures and The Accelerator Group, along with its win at the fist SeedCamp, this announcement has come out of LeWeb in Paris, France. This announcement is sure to increase not only the number of users, but also the dependency that online writers will have on this dynamic tool.

The Future

Zemanta has now opened itself to a huge reception in the world of online content creators. By opening their API, they can approach content creators to leverage their unorganized with the system, and the users are able to access the content for various needs.

In an article by TechCrunch, they state that “usage of the API is free for up to 10.000 API calls per month, and for a subscription fee above that.” So not only has Zemanta found a way to integrate user input, but they also find a way to monetize their efforts for content creators to get organized.

Zemanta has a bright future ahead of it. I have just recently connected with one of the Founders for Zemanta on Twitter @andraz. He’s easily approachable and seems to be keen on connecting with users around the world.
