Thus, users will be able to watch movies and tv shows through the internet on their iPad via the Boxee set top box.

PopcornFlix: Free Movie Streaming Service No Downloads from Screen Media Ventures

Screen Media Ventures who normally is just a film distributor has launched a new movie streaming business at Popcornflix.com. Currently there are over 1,500 movies available on the service with pre-roll, spot ads and banner ads.

“We’ll do some original releases, but we don’t see ourselves competing with the programmers or studios.”

From my point of view it is great to see another free movie streaming service, however this legitimate service has a very poor design and looks quite similar to a lot of the illegal sites all across the web. It is expected that there will be a lot of advertising on free streaming services, but advertising in the middle of movies is just a little too annoying.

What are your thoughts of Popcornflix.com?

Redbox Wanting to Compete Head on with Netflix

It seems as thought Redbox is considering launching their own Netflix type service. Redbox President Mitch Lowe has now confirmed that the service will be subscription-based, but he did not indicate price points for the service.

Currently, Redbox operates a large network of unmanned DVD rental kiosks throughout the USA. I cant see how Redbox thinks they can move from unmanned rental kiosks to being a strong technology based service.

Boxee Finally Adds Netflix Support to Their Boxee Box

The Boxee Box has been upgaded with an amazing service just in time for Valentine’s Day. Boxee added Netflix support for the Boxee Box.

Netflix was supposed to be supported by the end of 2010, but it is finally here and it is going to make a lot of customers very happy.

Automatic firmware updates will roll-out later this week, but owners can force the download now by manually initiating a firmware update.

Movie Watch List: Watch and Download Free Movies Online with No Downloads

movieswatchlistPreviously here on Crenk we have discussed the topic of watching movies online without downloading anything, but we have just come across a new startup that has tried to solve this issues but in an illegal way. The site in question is MovieWatchList. MoveWatchList allows anyone from anywhere in the world to stream, watch and download pretty much any movie.

The site itself has a very simple layout in which allows users to quickly view some of the most popular movies and even search by category. It seems as though all the movies on the site are copyright infringing. The movies themselves aren’t the best quality, mainly because they are filmed by someone with a handy cam instead of being an official release. However, watching these movies is of course fine for the users.

The movies seem to have been uploaded to Megavideo as they are all using their video player. I’m quite surprised the movie companies don’t go after sites like Megavideo who allow anyone to distribute freely copyrighted content.

Overall if you are looking for a place to watch pretty much any movie for free without downloading any software, and your not too worried about the sound quality, then MovieWatchList is for you. Plus also remember that you can download anything from the site for free!
