We received a great tip this morning about a list of the Top 100 Engineers on Twitter. Nearly everyone knows what Twitter is these days, but its so hard to find quality people to follow. Here is the top 8 Engineers to follow on Twitter. For the full 100 list you can check it out here.

3. Tyrone Taborn : Also known as the Black Engineer, he is the Chairman and CEO of Career Communications Group. Engineers, along with those looking to bring diversity to the field, will enjoy this Twitter feed.

4. Angela Melick : If you are an engineer who feels they are wasting their talent, visit here for someone who feels just like you. Angela is both a mechanical engineer in the sustainability sector and author of a webcomic entitled “Wasted Talent.”

5. David Rush : Visit here for the Twitter feed of an engineer with an ecologic frame of mind. David is a civil/environmental engineer who promotes sustainability and the reduction of man’s impact.

6. Manny Jimenez : This engineer is actually in recording and mixing. He is also a computer nerd and not shy about it.

7. Matthew Anderson : He is a civil engineer from the suburbs of Chicago. His other interests include AutoCAD, hydraulics, and being a father of five.

8. Chris Gammell : Chris is an electrical engineer who uses Twitter to blog about analog electronics and renewable energy. Check out interesting engineering tweets, along with daily life.

How Do I Edit a Twitter List?

If you’re used to working with Twitter through third party apps, it can indeed be a bit puzzling to figure out how to work with the list feature: if they’re supported at all in your favorite Twitter app, it’s unlikely they’ll have an ‘edit’ option.

By contrast, if you pop over to the Twitter site you’ll find that they keep tweaking and adding features and capabilities to make it more and more useful from within your Web browser. Now, having said that, I use a third-party app too, but as I’m suggesting, to edit Twitter lists, I pop back to the mothership.

Pop over to the site, log in, then look on the right:
If you move the cursor over a list name, you’ll see a subtle little triangle next to that particular list name. You’ll need to click on it to get the option of editing your list. I’ll do so for “Coloradoans” and here’s what I see at the top:
Note that if you click the list name, you won’t get to the same place, which is a bit weird, but now you know!
Click on “Edit” and you’ll see a window pop up with a bunch of interesting options:
From here you can see how to change the name, make the list private, etc. To edit list members, however, it’s a bit more confusing because you need to click on “Following”:
Once you’re there, you can see each member of the list:
See the first of those two little boxes to the right of Chris’ entry? Click on it and you’ll see a list of all your lists pop up, indicating on which this particular person is included:
Click on the check box next to the list name and that Twitter user is either a member of the list (if you didn’t have them checked before) or is now not a member of the list (if they were already checked in).
So now you know, I hope this will help you manage your own Twitter lists!

Twitter Lists Goes Nationwide – Then Stateside

Twitter lists is really starting to take off. Just yesterday we talked about how releasing a widget was going to bring the blogosphere and Twitter ever closer. Now Twitter lists is helping to bring populations closer – thanks to SimplyZesty.

The company have created lists for entire populations of countries to join. The first one was build by hand for Ireland with the UK version following a few hours later. Users must manually join the Irish list. For the UK they simply have to tweet #TwitterLondon (replacing London with wherever they live).

Following the rapid success of these lists they decided to launch a US version that is fully automated. It has been programmed to add users when they tweet about the homeland such as ‘#newyork’.

I think that we’re kind of straying away from what lists were originally intended for but hey, Twitter is what you make of it.

Twitter Launch New Twitter Lists Widget

So Twitter lists launched last week and over the weekend we all the the chance to take a look see, make a few lists and figure out just what it was all for. As it happens it’s a pretty cool feature which connects you with more people of the same interests giving Twitter even more of a social feel without taking away from the whole ‘Get it off your chest aspect’.

Now, the weekend has come and gone and the Twitter developers have plopped a Lists Widget into our laps for us to play with on our sites and blogs. Here’s what it looks like.

Basically, it works in the same way as other Twitter widgets except instead of showing the tweets of just one person is shows the tweets of everyone who is in that list. I can see this being a massive hit in the blogosphere because building community and adding new features to blogs are two of the most important things for a blogger to consider – well the list widget hits the nail on the head.

I tested it out and while it looks good and gets the job done the widget can be a little slow or sluggish but that’s to be expected seeing as it’s only out a single day. I’m sure the developers are on to it – they’ve had enough practice to know what to do when something is down, broken, sluggish or ‘over capacity’.

15 Cool, New and Useful Web Apps You’ve Never Heard Of

I have spent a long time lately trying to find unique tools that will help me simplify certain tasks in my day to day activity. I have put together a list of 15 web apps that have really help me to save time online. All these applications are different markets but they all have one thing in common, they are cool, new and very useful!

Waze

Driver-Generated Live Maps and Real-Time Road Information. Driving with waze mobile client lets users passively and actively share real time data and receive the optimal route to their destination.

Spacky

Spacky is a free keyword research tool. Spacky lets the user type in any keywords and then lets them know search volumes in Google, Yahoo and Microsoft.

Curculator

Curculator is a very simple currency converter and calculator that has been design to save users time. The currency converter uses daily mid-market rates from various trusted sources. All rates are refreshed daily. However, I would really like to see them announce their source for the financial information

Itumz

Itumz is a powerful web application that lets you make lists, access them from any web browser, and share them with your friends and the world. The rich user interface is simple to use and makes it easy to create to-do or task lists.

Superminder

To-do’s are too simple, calendars are overly complex, sometimes you just need to be reminded. Superminder is a micro-application that will make sure you don’t forget.

Springo

Springo is a visual search engine like no other. Currently Springo lists some of the main search results but is still yet to get very detailed.

Tatango

Tatango, the ad-supported group SMS service. The service is dead simple to use, as it should be. I made the jump from accountless bum to en masse messaging mogul in all of about 2 minutes.

Amplify

Amplify is a service for sharing clips from articles, blog posts or anything else you read on the web with your friends on Twitter.

Topsy

Topsy is a search engine powered by tweets. Topsy sees the Internet as a stream of conversations. Topsy treats people differently from the webpages they create and the things they say.
