Recyclable Paper Laptop That Can Actually Be Thrown Away

Recyclable-Paper-Laptop-by-Je-Sung-ParkLaptops these days never seem to last that long. I tend to go through a new laptop every couple of years and when I get new laptop I always have the issue of doing something with the old one. Over the year this adds up to a lost of waste for me and im sure millions of people around the world have exactly same issue.

This big issue is something computer companies are always trying to rectify. Designer Je Sung Park has now taken the idea of a recyclable computer to new heights. His Recyclable Paper Laptop is made from pulp and reprocessed materials, and would be broken down into the same when all is said and done.

Dell Adamo XPS To Be The Thinnest Laptop in The World

adamoxps

Dell has revealed their new Dell Adamo XPS notebook which looks like it will overtake the MacBook Air as being the thinnest laptop in the market.

Unfortunately the device was only shown for a moment before it was tucked away with no other details provided at this time. It does however look like the unit uses a new way of flipping open which in turn allows Dell to thin out the overall design.

Once the specs on the Dell Adamo XPS are released we will have them all here on Crenk.

A-DATA SH93: Waterproof, Shockproof External Hard Drive

adatash-93I cant really see this product getting much use, mainly because it is a hard drive that is targeted at people who need to backup their laptop while on a whitewater rafting trip.

Anyways, if you are someone who needs a complete waterproof external hard drive, then your in luck. Introducing the A-DATA SH93. This rubberized HDD is fully waterproof and shockproof. According to A-DATA, it can be left underwater (one meter) for 30 full minutes without any causing any problems to your data (though we don’t suggest you put that time to the test).

On the tech end, the SH93 provides 250 GB, 320 GB, 500 GB or 640 GB worth of storage space. It also features a wraparound USB cord stored within a slit in the exterior, keeping your cord in place where and when you need it.

As for the price it is still yet to be confirmed, but on the up side will come in yellow and red. [A-DATA via Wired]

Nokia Launch Booklet 3G Their First Netbook

nokia boolet 3g netbook

We reported yesterday that Nokia was going to enter the netbook market and today it is official. The Finnish mobile giant has up until now only been involved in the mobile handset market, but now here are the specifications on their new Booklet 3G.

This is key because Nokia are the largest manufacturer of mobile phones in the world and when entering the netbook market they have tried to producing an amazing product and before Apple and others enter the market.

What are its specifications telling us? Well, it’s definitely big on connectivity: it’s got Bluetooth , WiFi, 3G and a SIM card slot, which makes it a netbook with all the connectivity options of a mobile phone. It has an integrated GPS plus a copy of Ovi Maps, which is also different from most laptops. The rest of its features are, well…netbooky, albeit nearer to the high-end of the specter: an Intel Atom processor, Windows 7, 10.1 inch screen, and all that encased in a 0.78 inch aluminum body.

Im now very interested to see what Apple bring to the netbook market in the coming month or so.

Check out an introductory video below:

A Sneak Peak At New Netbook Operating System

Netbooks have hit the scene and it’s all the rage. Is this a fad? Many report that netbooks do not offer the same experience as a full sized laptop and  has sub par hardware. With a price tag under $500, I think most users understand what they are getting when they get the product.

I’m actually in the market for a netbook myself, looking at the MSI Wind, but as I research the various types of netbooks, it’s interesting to see an OS built specifically for a netbook.

jolicloud

Introducing Jolicloud, a Linux-based operating system being created by Netvibes founder Tarig Krim. This screenshot shows the merging of desktop and cloud applicatons with icons that are easily recognizable for users. Future updates will include a touchscreen that users can interact with, especially considering the smaller size of the screens.

I look forward to the release of this OS and hopefully have a review posted.

Will Apples ‘Brick’ Project Be The Worlds First All-Screen Laptop?

This is such an interesting concept design I just had to write about it. The project is called “Brick” and is from Apple and could potentially be the world’s first all-screen laptop. The project is currently being designed by Yves Behar and some concept designs are to the left.

Once seeing this project it automatically looks like a hybrid between the iPhone and a Macbook-Air.

Apple’s “Brick” would be a hybrid laptop/tablet/ebook that dispenses with a physical keyboard and trackpad in favor of a virtual, adaptive UI that blends multitouch, gestures and its own orientation to switch between different modes:

Laptop — When the Brick is held horizontally with the two screens at an angle, the bottom screen turns into a virtual keyboard and touchpad. There’s no tactile feedback for touch typists, but never mind, corrective text handily makes up for the myriad errors. The top screen acts like a regular laptop screen, except that it also is touch sensitive, and is responsive to multitouch gestures like double-tap to zoom, pinching and scrolling.

Tablet — When the two halves are opened fully they snap together in the middle to make a tablet with a continuous touch-sensitive screen. This mode is best for surfing the web, browsing and editing photos, and displaying mind-altering music visualizers.

eBook — Like laptop mode but held vertically. Each screen transforms into an electronic page for easy reading. Displays eBooks, eMags or specially laid out websites. Readers navigate by swiping the screen to turn the pages.

Tabletop — Like tablet mode but for two people. When an onscreen button is pushed, the screens are oriented for two users sitting opposite each other. Great for collaborative tasks and especially games.

And why’s it called “Brick”? Because it smashes Windows!

Apple Macbook Touch Rumoured To Be Coming on October 14

Apple is a company that always seems to have a lot of rumours about their upcoming product launches. Here is a new one to add to the group, the Apple Macbook Touch. Some sources claim that

Apple is planning to launch the new Macbook on an event that is to be held on October 14. At this stage there is no official word that is actually a reality, but I think that this is definitely a product that will soon be launched.

There are other sites who have already reported on this rumour, including Gizmodo and Sizlopedia. As Sizlopedia mentioned, I doubt however Apple will launch a revolutionary new product at such a small gathering, when they have Macworld Expo 2009 not so far away.
