Linkedin iPhone Update Offers More Functionality

If you had a chance to update your apps today then perhaps you were surprised by an update for  your Linkedin mobile app. The buzz across the media sites is Linkedin’s new shiny app that offers 100% more functionality than the prior version of the app did. For all purposes the prior version was useless. The limited functionality made it one of those apps you had because you hoped, but you just never used. Luckily, following Facebook’s recent app update, the new Linkedin app gives users more of what they want with a few interesting extras.

Mobile Access to your Desktop

LogMeIn Logo

There’s just some apps that take the concept of mobile apps to a whole other level. It was not long ago that I reviewed an iPhone application that started your car from afar, making the use of a key useless.

Most recently a new app was brought to my attention thanks to a colleague of mine. As a heavy mobile user and constantly on the go, it’s not always easy for me to access my files. I use apps like Dropbox, and Zumodrive, but sometimes I don’t place the files I need in those apps. In those cases LogMeIn Ignition has saved the day.

Junaio: Augmented Reality Social Network for iPhone and Android

junaioMetaio is a very interesting company that has started to develop some great augmented reality iPhone applications.

Metaio has just announced a new social network called Junaio which is based around augmented reality.

The newest version of the mobile augmented reality platform includes new and improved features such as:

1)      Enhanced live overlay and local search: powered using Google Local Search, now you can visually search for points of interest like restaurants, cafes, or anything in your location

2)      New social features: Ability to rate, comment on others scenes, publish your own augmented reality to social networks like Facebook and Twitter

3)      Improved user interface and enhancements: greater usability and fast download speed

To me this seems to be a very weird yet interesting mix between the real world and social networking online.

Mobile Roadie – Off the Shelf iPhone Apps for Musicians and Mosques

mobile roadieThe iPhone app store now hosts 100,000 apps from producers other than apple, with 2 billion(!) downloads across the board. Having your own promotional application plugs you into your customers in a convenient and content rich way, whether those people are Taxicab customers, restaurant patrons, music fans or members of a religious organisation (they have a special category for ‘Places of Worship’). For the smaller operator that doesn’t have their own in-house programmer, the tricky thing is hunting down a developer who will build your product quickly and cheaply. Mobile Roadie offers a sub $2K alternative to pitching on Odesk and hoping you get a good product. Their standard product can be filled with your own content, including music, pictures, videos, news feeds, event lists, forums, twitter feeds and more, and can push user-submitted data to facebook and twitter accounts.

Their standard model is a little inflexible, but for an extra $500 they’ll design you a custom skin, and you can add things like push notification (messages that will pop up on screen for a group targeted by e.g. location, age, gender) for additional fees. A relatively cheap and simple way to get a functional tool up on the app store, just watch the costs. You might even end up making some money out of your app. depending on how you want to serve it – Mobile Roadie are keen to impress on you just how powerful a platform the iPhone is… I wonder how many Apple shares the dev. team has?mobile roadie comparison

Send AT&T a Message This Friday With Operation Chokehold

iphoneEver since the iPhone came out, the AT&T network has been jam packed with too much data and not enough bandwidth. Users complained about this for months, and even though there were some improvements the introduction of the iPhone 3G S and then a flood of data intensive apps such as video streaming came onto the market, the bottle neck just wasn’t wide enough.

AT&T customers have had enough and many are falling in line with a man called ‘Fake Steve’ is asking all iPhone users on the AT&T network in the US to choke the network on Friday at noon. Here’s what he want everyone to do.

“On Friday, December 18, at noon Pacific time, we will attempt to overwhelm the AT&T data network and bring it to its knees. The goal is to have every iPhone user (or as many as we can) turn on a data intensive app and run that app for one solid hour. Send the message to AT&T that we are sick of their substandard network and sick of their abusive comments. The idea is we’ll create a digital flash mob. We’re calling it in Operation Chokehold. Join us and speak truth to power!”

Gold iPhone 3GS Worth $3.2 million

Why are there people out there who just bling the iPhone and other Apple products and then think they can sell them for a high price? Well even more puzzling, why the hell do people buy pimped out Apple products?

Surely you have a spare £1.92m (That’s $3.2m) to drop on this thing. It is the shiny hellspawn of Goldstriker’s Stuart Hughes, who took 10 months to create it. Yeah, he’s a little slow as well as unimaginative. It was commissioned by an anonymous Australian gold mining magnate, which makes perfect sense since the phone features a bunch of gold and diamonds as well as a single cut rare 7.1 carat diamond in the home button.

Download Free BBC iPlayer iPhone Application

bbc-iplayer-iphone-app_2While you can already watch your favorite British TV programs on your iPhone using the BBC iPlayer service from their website, it looks like the BBC are developing an iPhone App which should bring a wider range of new BBC iPlayer services to the iPhone.

The new BBC iPlayer app even could feature a download option, which would allow you to download your favorite TV show directly to your iPhone. That way you could watch it whenever you want. Some other features include the ability to watch live TV. There’s nothing official from the BBC yet on when the app will be available.

Improve Your Aim At The Urinal With iPhone App

pee iphone appMost guys have been in the situation where they have way too much alcohol, it’s 2 am and your bladder feels like it is going to explode any second. That’s when you head to the bathroom and hope your aim is good enough even though you can’t even see. There’s is even an iPhone app for that.

Now, you can relive that experience (minus the alcohol) anywhere with a new iPhone app. It’s called ‘iPeePee,’ and it’s not a joke, according to Pocket Gamer. The premise is pretty straightforward. You play a drunk guy trying to pee in the appropriate location. Unlike real life, your reward isn’t dry pants or maintaining some dignity; it’s a high score.

It’s a wonder this app was approved by Apple, but apparently, urine is okay with the App Store overseers. There’s no doubt ‘iPeePee’ will be a hit with the college crowd (as would any apps involving boobs and booty), especially since it costs a mere $.99. We can see it now: Fraternities across the nation using the app as a way to train lightweight pledges. [From: Pocket Gamer, via New Launches]

MSN Messenger and Bing Apps Approaching to iPhone

I think it was just a matter of time: Microsoft is planning and developing applications for MSN Messenger, the most used IM around the globe, and Bing search engine to be offered in iPhone’s Application Store.

Should not surprise anyone, Microsoft is always looking to expand their market along with other technologies. So it won’t matter the popularity that could achieve Windows Phone or Windows Mobile, the company will most certain publish in March of 2010 the MSN and Bing’s app for iPhone.

Considering also that Microsoft released a time ago applications for BlackBerry and Verizon models. These new apps will not only offer the same and known functionality, like search and maps in Bing, they are planning to introduce new features. Nothing confirmed just yet.

What else should we expect for next year? Android’s app? Or even Chrome OS MSN Messenger version?
