Shadow Guardian, Uncharted-like Game available for iPhone and iPad

GameLoft developed a project that seems very interesting, “Shadow Guardian”. Which seems a game quite similar than the one of the most popular in the last years, “Uncharted”.

Here’s a short video about it:

Even though we can never compare iPod/iPad games with PlayStation 3 or XBOX, since that GameLoft completed a good game.

What do you say? Is this game you would play in your iPhone/iPad?

Create a Screencast and Share it in Twitter

Screenr is a simple web app which allows creating screencasts from your computer and we can share those in a Twitter friendly link for all of our followers.

Screenr does not install any software in your machine, works directly online using Java as the engine to record the video. The quality of the recording is quite good, and includes also HD support. The videos will be also available to run on iPhones and iPads.

Using this web app is also pretty straightforward; we only have to select the area of the screen and click on “REC”.

Free Angry Birds Wallpapers

Rovio, the company in charge of the development of the famous iPhone game “Angry Birds”, created a few wallpapers to use them in your iPhone or desktop.

With over 6.5M downloads, we cannot say this game did not make a mark; and now, all of the fans can enjoy some of nice quality images as wallpapers:

Flash-to-HTML5 Conversion Tool Demo

Wallaby is the tool which can end much of the supremacy defined by Adobe Flash. It will allow developers to re-use most of the elements from their projects and transforming those easily in HTML5. Here’s a demo.

Wallaby exports from an Adobe Flash project some key elements like graphics, masks and animations into a HTML file:

This tool won’t export all of the elements, but it will for sure automate a lot of the process developers can perform to achieve their animations to work with, for example, iPhones and iPads.

The interesting about this, is that Adobe posted this information in their blog. Cheers to that.

AutoCAD for iPad, iPhone and Mac OS

AutoDesk announced recently that they will provide a new version for AutoCAD, the most known CAD software available worldwide, which will include support, for the first time, to Mac users but also will be available for iPad and iPhone users.

CAD software is well-known in the professional life for designers, architects and engineers since it provides almost anything they need for a proper 2D or 3D design. AutoDesk in their 18 years existence has been avoiding, surprisingly for some, the Mac world; but fortunately for those professional or just geek AutoCAD lovers, they have new possibilities.

AutoCAD WS, as for Windows, the Mac version will be paid; but for iPad or iPhone users the application will be available for free, with some limitations of course.

Here are some of the features:

  • Open your DWG drawings for viewing, markup and editing.
  • AutoCAD WS mobile application supports Xrefs and image underlays, with Multi-Touch™ zoom and pan.
  • Tap objects to select, then move, rotate, and scale objects.
  • All edits are captured and stored in your online workspace, so your drawings are always up to date.
  • Share drawings with others through your iPad, iPhone, or iPod device. If other people are editing a drawing simultaneously with you, you’ll see their edits in real time.

Apple Approves Google Voice iPhone Apps

Make sure you read the title slowly and clearly…apps…as in more than one. If you were holding out for the official Google Voice app, keep waiting because that’s not what was officially approved by Apple. After a long dispute over Google releasing their Google Voice app in the iTunes store, it appears that perhaps Apple is loosening its tight grip. After having released then taken down from the iTunes store due to the app providing a service that already existed on the iPhone, many thought that there would never be a day that Google Voice would make its comeback.

AppleInsider reported that the two apps passing approval were GV Mobile + and GV Connect, both of which serve as a Google Voice app. According to the article, earlier in the month, the creator of GV Mobile + stated that he had gotten confirmation that Apple would be approving his app. Furthermore the article states that “the change in policy came after Apple published its App Store Review Guidelines for all to see.” If true, this is indeed a victory…for now.

With the release of apps that function as Google Voice apps, there is no doubt that Google will more than likely resubmit their official Google Voice app. In doing so, there does not seem to be a reason why this app would be rejected seeing how these other two have made it by. No word yet on when Google plans on resubmitting.

Does this change the way you would use your iPhone? With Skype already available and now Google Voice, could this effect the service plans we choose for our iPhones?

China Launches iPhone 4

It seems like the iPhone 4 would have been released worldwide by now, with as much of an impact as its made culturally. Still, there are indeed areas of the world where the iPhone 4 has not been released and China is one of those countries. The release of the iPhone 4 on September 25th will come a week after the iPad was released to long lines of fans awaiting Apple’s first and successful attempt at a tablet device.

The phone will be retail for approximately $743, for the 16GB model, if purchased at one of Apple’s retail stores and will not require a contract. The second way to secure an iPhone is to purchase it through China Unicom for $874 which includes the device and the deposit for a two year contract. Sound pricey? That won’t deter buyers from rushing to the stores to pick one up if sales of the iPad are any indication.

To coincide with this release Apple is also opening two brand new stores, the Hong Kong Plaza Apple Store in Shanghai and the Xidan Joy City Apple Store in Beijing. These two new additions add to an already aggressive move into the Asian market place. Numbers for sales will come shortly after the release date and should be interesting to see compared to US and other country launch numbers.

Netflix App Supports iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

Netflix is the digital phenomena that has delivered entertainment to us for many years. Starting off with DVD’s, then offering Blu-Ray, and now offering streaming services on just about any platform you might be on, whether desktop, laptop, or mobile. Today Netflix has updated its Apple iOS app to provide support for the iPhone, iPod touch as well as the iPad. Now users can  use their Apple devices to not just manage their online queue but also stream their favorites straight to their handsets.

Users with unlimited memberships can interact in the Netflix environment and have all sessions sync across multiple platforms. For example, if you are streaming a video and you pause it on your mobile device, you can pick up where you left off at home on your desktop or laptop as if nothing happened. Managing your Netflix queue is available but interestingly it only manages your “WATCH NOW” queue and not the discs that are mailed to you.

So does this change where you will interact with your streaming library? If you weren’t a Netflix subscriber, does this change the game for you?

Version 1.1 of the Netflix application requires iOS 3.1.3 or later.

Jobs Answers about iOS 4 Performance on iPhone 3G

Steve Jobs is answering e-mails to customers, again, this time answering about a user concern about iOS 4 poor performance on iPhone 3G. Jobs said that Apple is already working on it and there’ll be an update soon.

We’ve seen earlier how Steve Jobs took a little time to elaborate short responses about, sometimes, important issues. This time, the problem is regarding about iOS 4 which had a big presentation with iPhone 4; but apparently Apple didn’t realized that this OS has several and important performance issues on 3G devices.

Fortunately for those 3G owners and using the words of Jobs “update coming soon”.

The user said:

“I’ve waited patiently through 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, looking for a fix that will make my phone work again. I’ve read the forums that advise me to jailbreak my phone or use some other method so I can downgrade back to a version of iPhone 3, however I’m not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple.”

Jobs’ answer:

“Software update coming soon.

Sent from my iPhone”

In case you were wondering about Steve Jobs email, here it is: sjobs@apple.com. Although this mailbox does not go directly to him, it goes to a team of assistants and then gets forwarded to him if it’s important.
