The Internet has pretty much revolutionised fitness and healthy living. It has both busted many myths and crated some. With all the crosswinds of information available, an inevitable vortex has been created leading to a lot of confusion. Most people don’t know how many carbohydrates they should take in or why. Well SimpleFit is a new web app which aims to change all that in a simple, minimalistic way.

Firstly, you tell the app what kind of routine you’re looking for and in put some information about yourself. It will then churn out a fitness plan which is quite basic at the start and increases in its difficulty as the weeks and months progress. You can see a sample one below.

You are encouraged to log into the service to record your achievements and workouts and also to see what lies ahead for you the next day. All of your results and stats are recorded on the site and can be viewed in numerous forms such as graphically below.

For anyone trying other fitness apps which don’t seem to be working out, you should give SimpleFit a go to see if simplicity works for you.

Leftos: Question and Answer Site Between Men and Women

Today I came across a new service that has only been in beta for a little while, but has already grown a nice community around their service. Leftos (LEssons For The Opposite Sex) is a community by where people can anonymously discuss issues relating to male and female interactions.

Leftos is based around a question and answer style system, allowing users to ask any health releated questions they wish. I’m a firm believer that places like this are required in this day and age, but this would also be a great educational tool for younger people. The only issue that I have is how do you know the information on the site is accurate? Anyone can ask a question and anyone can answer the questions, so there is not a level of professionalism in the answers. It would be great to see doctors and health professionals answer the questions instead of just Joe public.

The users interface itself on Leftos is great. Leftos has a clean design that is easy to read and navigate. Currently on the Leftos there aren’t many ads, which is a good thing, but there is also a lot of blank space in the sidebar which could be made better user of.

Overall, Leftos has a lot potential to become a quality question and answer service, but it needs to remain ultra professional especially when peoples health is involved.

Online medical sites are all over the net. Some are more trustworthy than others, but as we seek medical advice online, it’s important for us to know our symptoms. More often than not I’ve seen people scare themselves with their paranoia of what they think they have based on very general information. Let’s try and avoid that shall we?

I’ve recently been made aware of a new medical site called MedHelp which focuses on determining your likely issue based on the layers of symptoms you go through in order to pinpoint as close as possible the exact nature of your situation. Now it’s not to be taken as concrete law, but it gives you a better idea of things you can discuss with your doctor.

The site instantly offers you the top 50 symptoms that commonly come across the site, but you also have the option of typing in your issue in a search engine. The layers of options that come after your initial search breakdown whether it’s for kids, adults, age ranges, gender, and then other more drill down options for better return of results. The site may look like other medical information sites, but at the top you get options like common tags, medical dictionaries, drug information, and videos which I found pretty useful.

Sites like this are just another example of how even a regulated industry like the medical field is becoming more online oriented, and while these sites become more popular, don’t forget to visit your doctor for more accurate, professional care!

OrganizedWisdom: The Human-Powered Health Search

I came across a very interested search engine the other day, OrganizedWisdom. OrganizedWisdom is a human powered health search engine. The site itself talks about all major health issues from Depression to Cancer, and also includes information about drugs, foundations and even physicians.

OrganizedWisdom looks very professional and includes a simple yet effective search tool, and allows everyone to see example of the most popular searches on the home page. This is a website that you dont necessarily want to have to use, but at some point or another everyone will go through something OrganizedWisdom covers.
