PlayStation 3: Unbreakable

George Hotz, the famous geek boy who hacked for the first time an iPhone, said recently on Twitter that he won’t be trying any more bypass the security and controls from Sony’s console PlayStation 3.

Actually he completed an important milestone a while ago; by accessing the PlayStation 3 kernel; where he found several secrets of this console, but the result of getting it hacked was not completed. Sony did not object any of his tasks, even more they encourage him to take over control of this console; but failure was at the end of his trip.

George said: “It was a cool ride, and I’ve learned a lot about a lot. Perhaps one of these days I’ll do a more formal goodbye.” Which makes us wonder about if this “retirement” it is not actually a defeated soldier who just gave up trying?

Hotz credibility was also questioned a while ago when he distributed a fake photo when he said he just hacked the iPhone 4.

Besides all that, we have to admit: Even though I’m no expert on hacking devices, the work on PlayStation 3 by Sony has been incredible.

Mario Bros: The street version

No, this is not the Mario Bros in Real Life we showed you before; neither Mario has a different look –street look- than other versions of one of the most famous games. This video shows us a complete Mario Bros level in the street.

Ok, you need to see it to understand the idea; take a look:

This video was created by Andreas Heikaus, and was part of the Bachelor thesis at the University of Applied science and art Hannover and is described as “It is the process of matching CG elements into live-action footage.”

If Games Had Super-Easy Mode

Did you ever consider how much time we spent on those classic games? And if those included super-easy mode, how different would it be? Have you ever think about those incredible difficult levels in Battle Toads and Contra in a very accessible way?

I’m pretty sure if that was available, that those epic games would not be so much as unforgettable ones. But the guys in CollegeHumor created a very cool video with a remake of those games in a “Super Easy Mode”. Take a look:

The one in Contra, the “humming” boss is just great. And the last one, Mortal Kombat is just mean.

World’s Hardest Game

Armor Games developed what they have called the game where it’s guaranteed you will fail; the name, of course, is The World’s Hardest Game.

The rules are simple: You are the red square starting in the initial green area, and you will need to get to the second green area passing some blue dots, trying of course not to be touched by any of them. Believe you me, the game is HARD… for real, really really HARD. Give it a try here.

They say also that there are 30 levels, but I really want to know these guys who can actually complete the first level.

Interesting notes about this game:

Mario Bros in Real Life

No, this is not Super Mario Bros Movie (1993, Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, Dennis Hopper); believe me, this short video is much entertaining than that.

Someone took a lot of his time to develop some kind of animated video in real life; the details are spectacular, movements and the game experience resemblance with the original is incredible. Take a look:

I can only imagine that this took a lot of patient work.

GetJoyPad: Convert Your iPhone in a JoyPad

GetJoyPad is an iPhone application available in the AppStore (U$S1.99) that lets you use your iPhone like a JoyPad for your desktop games.

Only works with Mac computers, you just need to download a free client available and with the app installed on your iPhone/iPod Touch you can start playing some cool retro games. Take a look to the video:

GetJoyPad simply transforms your touches into key presses, using a Wi-Fi connection; and as you can see in the demonstration works smoothly. Some of the emulators supported are: Nestopia for Mac, RockNES, Genesis Plus, MacMAME and many more.

Update: GetJoyPad is now also available on Windows platforms.

3D Tetris Online

Ready to go absolutely nuts and skip all work from today? No? Well, I’m sorry, it is my duty to distract you right now: Amazing 3D Tetris online game available.

Tetris fan or Tetris hater, you have to admit that this game has some distinction and value which let this saga live over the decades. There are hundreds and thousands of variations available around the web; and this is a new variable I’ve never seen it before.

I think the best thing about this online game is the usability, even though you have a lot of variables to move the pieces, you can easily get use to the controls. The games possibilities are: Garbage (clear the screen), Time Attack (3 minutes to clear the screen), Traditional (unlimited time, scoring points as speed goes faster).

One important disclaimer: Works with every browser, except IE.

Converting your Tablet in an Arcade Machine -For Real!-

After reviewing ThinkGeek’s joke about the arcade machine gadget that would be available to use with an iPad; fortunately we’ve found a gadget that does exists and works the same way as this fake “iCad”: Mameta, presented in the Europe campus party.

Ok so you don’t believe us, here’s a video (Spanish explanation):

Basically this is a HP Tablet inserted in a nice looking arcade box, with MAME application installed. The controllers are integrated with a special electronic motherboard, which is connected to the Tablet using USB ports.

And if you look closely, they’ve also inserted some lateral buttons to use it with the pinball emulator.

iCade: iPad Arcade Cabinet

How many of us love MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator)? And how many of those are Apple lovers? You are going to love this: The iCade is a lovely gadget that uses the iPad to convert it in an Arcade Machine.

Using it as a docking station, you can launch the iCad App available from the AppStore and play your favorite Arcade games. Here are some of the specifications on this product:

  • Beautifully retro styled, handcrafted wooden tabletop arcade cabinet and MAME emulator for your otherwise useless iPad.
  • Play your favorite arcade games anywhere there’s a table.
  • Hundreds of games available from various online sources – not included in product!
  • Professional grade arcade stick and microswitch buttons rated for 10,000,000 uses
  • Authentic arcade controls connect to your iPad via a standard 30 pin dock connector

  • Includes 10w USB power adapter
  • Separate iCade app required to use the cabinet controllers available soon from the App Store
  • Dimensions: 9″ wide x 10″ deep x 16″ high.
  • iCad App is totally free!

The cabinet includes the options for one or two players but I’m not quite sure how do two players can interact.
