Bollywood film-maker Vinod Chopra has announced that their latest film, Three Idiots, will soon be available for download on the YouTube website.
YouTube has a lot of revenue options and here is the newest, pay-per-download business.
You could always download videos from YouTube using “hacks” but this is probably the first time where people will be able to “legally” download a full-length movie from YouTube after paying Google a certain fee.
Currently most people involved are keep very tight lipped about how much each download would cost, the size of the downloads, and other key details.
The Hindu and ET have more details on this story.

Everyone knows that each of the major search engine has little quirks that state its individuality. For Google, it the special event logo (or doodle as it’s known) which changes on big events such as the 4th of July or Christmas. Bing however, has different photographs for backgrounds which change every now and again.
I found this cool application called Bing4Free which will download the new photograph when it goes live and put it as your desktop wallpaper. The Images are quite small unfortunately, 958×512 to be exact, but you can always select to stretch them across your screen with slightly reduced quality.
Other options include setting how often you want it to update the images (if you don’t want it do do it whenever a new image goes live) and how many images you want to queue up at any one time.
This is quite a cool program for anyone who like to change up their desktop, whether they use Bing or not.

Here at Crenk we always try to review the latest startups that are useful, and we have been tipped to look at a new startup called InfoDome. InfoDome aims to help small andmedium sized business develop online databases easily and affectively.
InfoDome lets users create online databases by scratch or by using the startup’s customized templates. Users can import data staight from Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, FilemakerPro, Word and other applications.
Pricing for InfoDome is very affordable with a free plan option available. With the free option users can have 3 databases with a total of 2,500 total records. Other plans start from $20 per month and go up to $150 per month.
The browser-based platform lets administrators share forms and reports with specific users and features easy to use drag and drop tools to create forms and reports.
The online database market is getting more and more crowded by the day. InfoDome aims to be a cheaper version of Microsoft Access, however I can see it getting a a lot of competition from Blist and DabbleDB.
How big is the market InfoDome is entering? I know that most developers these days used a database like MySQL, but you obviously need some level of knowledge to do so. Thus, InfoDome aims at users who dont have a high level of knowledge, plus they arent for users who have little or no knowledge, because the database needs to build around a solid product. Therefore what is the size of the market they are entering?
Quantcast is an analytics tool that has been around for quite a while, yet it seems as though most web developers either havent heard about it or dont use it.
Quantcast works in a very similar way to Google Analytics. The website owner ads some code to their site and then Quantcast brings in the relevant data and then adds it to their platform. However, unlike Google Analytics which is private, Quantcast allows the website own to then either display their analytics publicly or keep them private.
Unlike other online analytics software like Alexa and Compete (which estimate data based on a set of user stats), Quantcast provides exact analytical information and then only if it doesnt have that exact information, then it estimates traffic numbers. Thus, providing a much better indexing of what the world’s most popular websites are.
Here at Crenk we arent afraid to hide our stats like most other website owners, so here is a link to our Quantcast profile.

At the moment there are several torrent sites that are leading in the way of popularity, but some are being taken down and having to delete illegal files. Here is Crenk’s list of the top torrent sites for 2009.
- Mininova – Mininova is the successor to Suprnova, one of the original big torrent databases of the Web.
- Isohunt – Currently in a legal dispute with the Canadian Recording Industry Association, Isohunt is a longtime favorite of P2P users. The community at Isohunt also helps police abuse within their network, and reader comments and votes help to identify those torrents which should be avoided.
- The Pirate Bay – April 18, 2009: the Stockholm district court has sentenced the four Pirate Bay founders to a year in prison, and over $USD 3.5 million in fines. This is as punishment for violating their country’s copyright laws.
- Torrentscan – A “meta-search” engine, which is a search engine that searches other search engines
- YouTorrent – Still in beta testing format, this new torrent site claims to be the largest legal torrent search engine today. Accordingly, the result sets are much smaller than the “pirate” counterparts, but definitely try this site for yourself.
- Kickass Torrents – the new player in the market with some great technology and fast indexing.
- BTJunkie – One of the leading torrent search engines with great syndication across other torrent search sites.
- Bitsoup – Bitsoup is a growing favorite amongst P2P downloaders.
- Alive Torrents – Alive Torrents is a relatively new site. It focuses on torrents that have distinguished themselves as having a solid swarm base and an active readership.
- Torrentreactor.to – Torrentreactor has made a comeback from a hijacking and an uncooperative hosting service. They have moved to a different server setup and a Tonga country domain outside the USA.
- Fenopy (formerly Bitoogle.com) – the ‘original’ bittorrent search engine, which has now morphed into a metasearch engine. The results from your Bitoogle searches will point to various other torrent search sites. This site has been redirected recently.
- Torrentz – very quick torrent search engine with great indexing.
Whilst most other smart phone companies have got their app stores well and truly grounded such as Apple and Android, Blackberry are only now catching up. The latest most notable addition to their store is the official EBay app.
This cool app will allow people to bid, watch and pay for items on EBay right from their smart phones. However, that’s not that impressive because you can do that from a mobile browser. What is impressive is how it looks. As you can see from the screenshot below all the auction information is combines into one, easy-to-use screen.

Also, the app is integrated with the phone’s other features such as the calendar. Say you have a bid on an item and the auction is ending soon. Well an alarm will be set from the app on the phones colander and it will notify you if it needs and interaction on your part. It will also tell you if you won or lost the auction right away.
Unfortunately, the only method of payment using the app is PayPal – which i guess is for security reasons.
Many of you may be aware of an existing third-party EBay app for the Blackberry and wonder why you should bother with this one. Well this one doesn’t cost $10 – it’s free!
Yesterday I had a big panic and thought that I had lost several files on my computer. However, I was lucky enough to have them all fully backed up online. Here are some of our favourite free backup services online and software. Enjoy!
Mozy
The above tools are handy for running hard drive backups to another partition, external drives or your own FTP server. However if you want to backup only a handful of files and store them on reliable third party servers then you can try a free online backup service called Mozy. It’s quick to configure, fully automated and available both for Mac and Windows PCs. The only problem is that the free account gives you only 2 GB of storage space.
DropBox
An even better alternative is DropBox, however since it’s still in beta, you will have to wait for the next round of invites before you can get in. With DropBox you’re also able to access your files from other PCs, keep them synchronized across multiple computers and even keep a detailed log of all changes made to the file and restore it to an earlier version. Quite useful for people who work from multiple locations.
Comodo Backup
Comodo Backup is an excellent backup utility from the creators of Comodo Firewall. It’s free, easy to use and have everything you might need. You can easily backup your local files and folders to anywhere on your computer, network, DVD / CD or even FTP server. Plus it can be set to run automatically on specified time intervals.
Comodo has different backup modes: copy, move and synchronization. So apart from simply copying/moving the files from one place to another you can set Comodo to keep source and backup copy synchronized. That is to say, whenever you make some changes to the original files the changes will be replicated on your backup copy.
There are plenty of other cool features including rule-based file filtering, incremental backups, backup scheduling, backup archiving and email notifications.
Hinx Backup Easy
Hinx Backup Easy doesn’t have that many features as the one above but if you’re looking for a simple automated backup tool it’s a worthy candidate. Similar to Comodo, Backup Easy also allows you to backup files to a local drive or FTP server. There is also a scheduler to run backups on a regular basis. Backup Easy can do both full and incremental backups. In the latter case, it runs full backup only once, every backup afterwards just changes the files that were modified since last backup.
The program can run on all Java-supported systems. If you’re on Windows, simply download the installer and run it. The installation is automatic. For OS’s other than Windows, download the file, unzip it, and run the executable jar file.
SyncBack
SyncBack – Basically, it’s another backup software. Although the app has both free and paid versions, the free one has enough features for running local backups.
