We Transfer: Send Large Files With Ease

we transfer logo Sending a whopping file of 1.5Gb can be annoying. Firstly you have the constraints likely imposed by your e-mail provider which disallows such large e-mails meaning you’ll have to break it up or compress it. Then of course you have the time it can take for said e-mail to be sent and may God help you if you’re sending it to multiple recipients.

We Transfer is an a great start-up service which allows you to easily send large files of up to 2Gb to anyone without using traditional e-mail. It’s really easy to use and quicker than most services for two reasons.

we transfer 2

Firstly, you don’t have to register with the service. Secondly, you only have to fill out one quick form which you can see a sample of above. It takes less than a minute.  Once you click transfer, that’s it. Your file is uploaded to their servers and can be downloaded within the following two weeks by the recipient who’ll get an e-mail notifying them of the pending file. Quick, easy and efficient.

FileTwT : File Sharing On Twitter

filetwtlogo

It seems like these days you can’t go anywhere without tripping over a multitude of Twitter Apps, all of them struggling against each other vying for attention of the masses. Much like the people who use twitter. Well now it’s the turn of Filetwt.

It’s all very simple and convenient. Just put in your Twitter name and password, type in a description then upload a file. A link to that file will be posted on your twitter account.

Filetwt is a tool of convenience as it wouldn’t take too much effort to find one of the many other file uploading websites and then manually post the link to twitter yourself. That way you could have files larger than 20 megs. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the more well known uploading websites added a Tweet option.

According to the website if you sign up you can get Private Tweets, faster file uploads, updates and stuff. Personally I try not to sign up for anything if I don’t have to and the upload speed seems reasonable enough.

BitBlinder: Free Anonymous Bittorrent Downloading

bitblinder

Over at TorrentFreak they were the first to report on a new bittorrent startup like no other, BitBlinder. Most regular bittorrent users are always looking for the best way to hide themselves online and this just may be the answer.

BitBlinder is a new and free cross platform (Mac coming soon) open source project which not only claims to make anonymous BitTorrent transfers a reality but also hides your IP address while browsing the web. Its functionality also extends to the bypassing of some web filters and in the future will be compatible with more applications, such as email, IRC and instant messaging clients.

As one of its creators explains: “We want to make online anonymity fast, usable and ubiquitous to the point that organisations give up on spying and filtering us”.

It’s apparently not as fast as regular BitTorrent use, but it’s fast enough – and the key thing is that it’s free. Previously, using BitTorrent anonymously has involved paying to use a virtual private network (VPN). Among new features promised are the ability to avoid university and corporate firewalls, too.

Box.net Updates Facebook App

Box.net, the file-sharing and storage system, has two announcements coming later today. First up is the launching of the second version of its Facebook application, followed by the announcement of its Files application being opened up as a development platform for other Facebook developers.

With version 2 of the Facebook Files application, Box.net will offer new file privacy options, which is incredibly important for Facebook users when taking on these applications (and an important consideration for developers as well). As Facebook newsfeeds and profile settings are social by default, most Facebook applications don’t allow much room for self-management tools, like calendars, to-do lists, etc. Box.net’s latest version will also work well with Facebook’s new email-out option as well.

The furthered step of opening its Files application to the developers community will encourage a new group of file-sharing applications that are designed for Facebook’s social space, as the box.net service can be integrated into these other applications. The developer’s platform is scheduled to be made available some time next month.
