TweetAlert: Keep up to date on Twitter Trends and Searches

tweet alert logo Twitter has become one of the best ways to stay up to date with the news and current ‘Trends’ as they’re called on the service. However, in order to stay informed on one particular subject you have to search for it manually.

TweetAlert is an app that will follow subjects and trends that you have an interest in and when one is tweeted, it will be re-tweeted by your account so you can see it there when you next log in.

It literally takes less than thirty seconds to sign up to a trend using the service by filling in a quick form which you can see above. After that you’ll see the trends and topics on your twitter homepage.

It’s available here: http://code-or-die.com/tweetalert/

Podcast Generator – Make your own podcast the easy way

podcast logoCreating a podcast can seem like a fun idea at first. But then many amateur podcasters get put off when they discover all the feeds, tech know-how and fees that are involved. Uploading to iTunes requires a credit card and trying to host it all yourself can be like redesigning the space shuttle.

Podcast generator is different from your average podcast service. It’s this cool piece of software that is 100% free and really easy to use. First for all you download it from their website. Then, you can use it to upload almost any media file whatsoever such as mp3, WMA or Mp4.

You can add a title, description and tags so people can find it. As your episodes build up you’ll be able to see them in apodcast generator nice list format ready to be edited or deleted. You can also use the feed link to add the podcast to many download services like Feed Burner or Yahoo!.

One bad thing that I will say is that it’s all very basic. Your page is not very eye pleasing and promoting the podcast is difficult.  None the less it’s a free podcast creator and is well worth a look if anyone is thinking of making their own podcast.

Yahoo Closes RSS Ads, But This Is Only Small Part of Big Change Coming

It has been reported by the Silicon Alley Insider that Yahoo is closing their RSS Advertising solution.

Not much word on why — a Yahoo spokeswoman provided this statement to SAI:

Yahoo! is closing its Ads in RSS effective February 2, 2009. The beta program, which enabled publishers to place contextually relevant ads on their own site, was available to a targeted group of small online publishers. We have ended this beta program to focus on other more broadly used ad products for our publishing partners such as Sponsored Search and Content Match.

Silicon Alley isnt really sure why Yahoo is making this move. However, here at Crenk we know that this is just a smaller part of the big move coming from Yahoo. I have heard from inside the company that they are going to be closing a lot of departments within their contextual advertising network. Major changes will be coming with the next three months.

Is Twitter an Alternative for RSS Readers and Subscriptions?

Currently for Crenk we have been noticing that more and more people are following our feed on Twitter. It has got to a stage now where there are more people adding us on Twitter everyday than subscribing to our RSS feed. Is this saying something? Is Twitter becoming more of an RSS reader for people or are they just following our feed in Twitter because we are fairly active and give actual responses to direct questions?

There has been a lot of talk recently about companies still not adopting new media as much as they should and especially Twitter, but I really cant understand why! Twitter is an amazing network tool for all types of companies and it can actually provide big organisation with an easy way to directly communicate with users. Branding on Twitter is easy to control and even easier to see who has been discussing your brand.

From my point of view I couldn’t live without my RSS reader, simply because I have so many sources of information and I can easily and effectively control and read them. Twitter could never be my RSS reader, but is it some kind of substitute?

Blogrovr Has Added Crenk As a Default Feed

Over the last month or so we have made some big changes here at Crenk and they finally seem to be paying off. Crenk has now been selected to be a default feed in the technology section of Blogrovr.

Blogrovr is a browser plugin that provides users content about the websites that are browsing. Blogrovr is a very simple idea dont brilliantly. We are amazingly honoured to be a default site for Blogrovr and it puts us in great company with sites such as Mashable, Techcrunch, Lifehacker, Engadget, VentureBeat, Centernetworks and more.

If you are already a Blogrovr user then please add Crenk or if your not a user why not?

I was reading about an interesting product over at Webappers today, Feed Compare. Users just have to find out the feedburner address of the feeds they want to compare and then insert them into this compete looking tool.
