TV Gorge Brings Location Restricted TV Beyond the Barriers

tvgorge

Living in Ireland has its pros and cons. One of those cons which I share with many Europeans is that often, the US shows which I love aren’t shown on TV here until a few months has passed since their US debut. Gets kind of annoying when I have to read tweets and blog posts about shows I can’t watch until Summer. TV Gorge though, is most definitely the best service I’ve come across to get around this problem.

Basically, it acts as a big search engine to trawl the internet for shows which are location restricted. So shows which as available on the US-only Hulu and other such services are viewable on TV Gorge. Nice.

Best of all this is free. They have squeezed into a small gap in the market for users in Europe and Australia and are expanding quickly. Life Hacker recently did a profile of them for users who want to watch the new season of Lost, and were amazed at the amount of popular TV shows which they could easily watch. This included Dexter, Archer, Dollhouse, Entourage along with over 125 others, and growing.

Vidque – The Internet’s Premium Video Syndication Site

vidque logoWhile YouTube is definitely your best bet if you want top videos, it can be a little to constantly search and scour in order to find them. Yes the featured video sections helps, but I think I know  better solution.

It’s called Vidque. It’s basically the most popular video sites all combined (or syndicated) into one with a touch of social media plopped on top. Here are the basics:

When a video from  a popular service (Youtube, Viddler, MetaCafe ec…) reaches the Vidque it can be viewed by clicking on it. You can see a sample of this below. To the right of the video screen you can see options enabling you to either boost the videos rankings of deem it not worthy. This is how Vidque ranks its videos (along with taking the current rankings from the parent sites).

You can also choose to add a video or series to your page and see what your followers and people you follow have added to theirs. This is where the social media aspect comes into play. This idea (like so many others on the site) is once again incorporated into the videos rankings. The more people who choose to add the video to their page the higher it climbs in the rankings.

MySpace Assures imeem Users, Playlists Are Safe

In what was practically the unplug heard around the world, imeem users were rudely awakened when upon loading their favorite playlists, they

imeem playlists moving to MySpace Music

were nowhere to be found. MySpace’s acquisition is not responsible for imeem going away, as the suffering company would have surely gone the way of the dinosaur on its own, but rather, shutting off the API killed a lot of apps, desktop and mobile alike. The impact was felt the world over as no word was even given, no warning, not even an explanation was made at the time of this event.

Recently MySpace has done right with the imeem community by assuring them that their playlists are fine, and are simply being ported over to MySpace music playlists. While I’m not entirely sure of MySpace’s music porting capabilities, I’d have to assume this is not an overnight process. Nevertheless, MySpace’s imeem acknowledgement provides some comfort to avid imeem users, but little those that have already migrated to other platforms. The service’s dedicated fans were the most spurned by this transition in ownership, and perhaps MySpace’s assurance comes too little too late.

In the announcement MySpace encourages users to use the existing music service provided by said company while the transition is taking place. It states it has the largest licensed digital catalog of music, hoping to lighten the blow even more, but for some of us, MySpace is not a site we thought of when we thought of music. Will the acquisition of imeem, will this change? Should be interesting to see the response once the imeem playlists have been brought over.

Touch Technology On A Rubik’s Cube

Remember that puzzle box from the 80′s that kept all of us guessing and some of us frustrated. No…not the one the one from Hellraiser, the other puzzle cube, the Rubik’s cube.

This color puzzle cube kept some of entertained for hours while for others it was a great projectile to throw at your siblings or at the wall, but in either case many of us have come in contact with one at some point in our lives.

Well the puzzle cube has updated itself for the 21st Century, and a whole new generation can become frustrated all over again. The new cube uses touch and sliding technology that most of us will be familiar with already or at least recognize in how we interact with Apple’s products or any other touch interface. the cube still has it’s colorful display but this time the cube is much more fragile.

Coming in at a whopping $150, I’m not quite sure if it’s something everyone will have, but for those of us into nostalgia and who want to pick one up, even if just for novelty purposes you can do so from Amazon.

The downside? Well you can’t take off the stickers and rearrange them to impress your friends. The upside? Well if you know programming, you just might be able to rearrange the colors to impress your friends.

In either case it’s a steep price to pay for frustration but for those of you that mastered the old, here’s a whole new way to master the new. If you’ve got one, seen one, or know someone who has one, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it and whether you find it as fun as the original.

Clipta Video Search Offers More Results

For a long time YouTube has been the king of the video search. There have been numerous other video sites, and like the rest, they all fall short in their ability to really attract a wide audience onto their site. Recently I was made aware of Clipta Video Search, in what appears to offer a better interface than YouTube and offering more diverse results.

Clipta also offers distinct categories to make it easier to find videos with less of a chance that a mislabeled video would be placed under any given category. The community on here appears to be active and there is definitely some control behind the scenes to offer the users a better experience. While it may not rank as high as YouTube for your video searches, give it a try!

Get That Missing Album Art For Your Music List

It never fails that sometimes when I try to import my music CD’s that I don’t have the right album art to show in my music player.  When it comes to music I’m picky, and I like my music to be labeled correctly, ratings, rankings, album names, and definitely album art.

If you’re like me, then All CD Covers might be the place to stop in order to fill the missing void of album art you might have in your playlist. With over 100,000 album art and growing, there is a good chance you’ll find what you need.

As an added bonus they also offer movie and game cover art for all of your media. It’s a nice one stop shop to get yourself caught up and make your file listings attractive and cataloged just right.
