Startuply – Work for Start-ups

Seeing as Crenk is a start-up review site, it occurred to us during our day of endless pondering that many of you may be interested in working for a start-up. But getting in with one can be tough. By their very nature start-ups are small and have a tight knit staff; normally friends who spotted a gap in the market or had a great idea.

Staruply is basically a job site that serves only to advertise jobs in start-ups where YOU can apply for them. Many of the jobs are for things like PR, development and editing. The homepage has the most recent jobs posted by start-ups looking for staff. This list of jobs gives you basic information such as if it is telecommute, fulltime and the salary.

Start-ups can also post jobs for free by using the ‘Post’ option along the top of the site.

Given the recession, many are out of work but have loads of marketable skills. With thousands of people turning to the internet for employment, you better be quick about applying.

In summary: This is a very useful site for the young glossy-eyed graduates and experienced professionals alike.

Job Boards Are Taking Over The Tech Blog World!

Duncan Riley has a new blog called the Inquisitr and they have just launched a new job board. With this new job board launching it made me sit back and think, why are all these Technology News companies launching crappy job board that are pretty much all from the same 2 or 3 companies? Do they really add anything to the user experience? and more importantly are they being used from a user stand point, while bringing in revenues for a publisher?

Currently, sites like RWW, Gigaom, Techcrunch, Venturebeat, Centernetworks and more.

The companies in which seem to be used all the time are Simply Hired and Personforce. Except for Centernetworks which seems to be built upon a Drupal platform, so they have made the Jobs extension in house.

I just dont get all of these job boards and how companies think they can find the right person by posting on them. Why not just save the money and either place a job advert on Linkedin or even headhunt via Linkedin?

What do you think about the whole Job Board situation!

Execs Move To Facebook, But I Predict Facebook Not To Be The Next Google!

There have been a lot of reports today about Google losing another top executive to Facebook. The person in question is Elliot Schrage, who is the VP of global communications and public affairs for Google, or was up until a few days ago. Elliot will now be taking up a new job in the same position at Facebook.

I remember back when Google was just launching into the marketplace, and all the stories were around top executives moving from Microsoft to Google. Now they all seem to be slowly moving from Google to Facebook. Are these movements to make more money or equity or are they moving to the next Google? At this stage im thinking they are moving to Facebook because they see Facebook as the next Google, but im not so sure. Facebook has never been profitable, they are only back up crazy valuations and they dont have a complete business model in place to obtain revenues. Thus, leads me to think, who will be the next Google? Who will own the internet, because this isnt done upon valuations, this is done upon generating high revenues!
