Tesla Motors Receives Funding from US Government
The Department of Energy has now made it official that Tesla Motors will receive $465 million in government loads to fund its Model S sedan.
There has been a lot of talk about Elon Musk (Tesla Chairman) and how he is running his company, but it seems to me that he is slowly getting somewhere with his affordable electric car idea.
At the moement it is no small feat to convince the USA federal government of Tesla’s financial viability. However the new model S sedan I think really has a chance to become a lot more mainstream than the first Tesla roadster.
Daimler’s recent 10 percent stake in the company no doubt helped. Now Musk just has to build a $100 million powertrain factory and deliver an affordable electric sedan in less than two and a half years — or hope his new investors are as flexible about such deadlines as the rich California environmentalists who have funded him until now.
