Windows desktops are indeed one of the most common places where we feel very comfortable, the simplicity and the fact that it did not have significant changes through the years are one of the reasons. But also, among the years, other possibilities appeared with other operating systems, making some interesting tweaks in user’s desktops.

Aximion makes our desktop look really cool, but it could take us a while to get used to it. One of the disadvantages is that the “Start” button is not available, so we must find our applications browsing around.

Requirements to use it:

• Windows XP 32/64 bit, Home/Pro, Service Pack 1/2/3
• DirectX 9.0 installed
• A video card that supports: •DirectX 9.0

o   Vertex Shaders 1.4 and Pixel Shaders 2.0

Wallbase is a great database of close to 400,000 wallpapers searchable by topic and keywords. The site offers a variety of sizes to fit your needs with the ability to search by Random or Global Toplist. I like the ability to see what others are putting on their backgrounds, giving me insight on the types of people out there. The random is a nice choice if you’re a gambler, I’m not, so I refrain.

Be careful what you search for because some NSFW images might pop up, but you have the option of turning that off so that images don’t come up in search. To prevent you from clicking on wallpaper that was not designed for your desktop you can simply role the cursor over the image to see what size the image was rendered for.

Yes, I suppose we can partially blame them for the recession and be totally jealous of their riches but they need to talk too, right? StockTwits Desktop is a new piece of software that allows people all over the world to talk to one another about stocks. Within the tweets you’ll find the latest gossip, trends and advices about trading.

The programs basically consists of columns of tweets in different categories as well as StockTwit TV which gives you the latest news about the software. For example, they recently teamed up with the trading giant NASDAQ in the Big Apple.

It’s all free and extremely useful to anyone who currently trades or is interested in becoming a stock trader. I used the programs for five minutes and discovered that AIG stocks may be a safe bet for the future and that USD-JPY would not have been a good move.
