Firefox 3 Breaks The World Record For The Most Downloads In a Day

It looks like FireFox’s campaign to get the most software downloads in 24 hours has worked. They now have an announcement on their website saying :

Thanks to the support of the always amazing Mozilla community, we now hold a Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours. From 18:16 UTC on June 17, 2008 to 18:16 UTC on June 18, 2008, 8,002,530 people downloaded Firefox 3 and are now enjoying a safer, smarter and better Web.

I still find it quite amazing that their servers could handle all of those downloads in one single day. Well lets not forget that there were some major issues when the day started because it was really difficult to actually get the download from the sites.

The Website Is Down: Sales Guy vs. Web Dude

This is brilliant and just had to share it.

Firefox 3 Download Day Is Here and Where Is The Download?

Today is Firefox 3 Download Day and it is past the launch time of 10am PDT and still no download to be available. Im sure there are thousand if not millions of people trying to get this download at exactly the same time, but come on they had months to prepare for this!

I think I am just going to have wait until tomorrow my time to get the download and actually review it for everyone here.

RSS Awareness Day: Coming May 1st

Back in 2005 5% of the Internet users said they were using RSS aggregators or XML readers to get the news and other information delivered from blogs and content-rich Web sites as it is posted online.

Feedburner recently reported that they track around 60 million RSS subscribers. Even if we bump that number to 70 million RSS users (counting people that use RSS with other applications or platforms) this would still convert to a meager 5,4% of the Internet users around the world, as of today.

RSS is a tool that is so useful in my everyday life currently and please support RSS Awareness Day.

April Fools’ Day: How To Track

I came across this interesting site yesterday when it hit the front page of Digg. The site is AprilFoolsDayontheweb. I still have no idea why all the blogs get involved in April Fools’ Day so much, but it just seems to happen. Im always up for a good prank, but how does April Fools’ Day differ to any other day for Tech news blogs, most of the time they just make stuff up anyways or even just get the story completely wrong. Well anyways check out the site and see what happened this year.
