We are hoping that this ad slot will allow startups get some extra promotion for a very cheap price. The stats for the site havent been updated yet, but as a startup you can expect a minimum of 40k ad impressions per month for only $10, bargain!
There hasn’t been a post on here for a few days so I thought I would just have a bit of a rant. Here at Crenk the theme of the site has changed several times in the last year. Currently for the last few weeks I have been thinking about re-branding the site and actually changing the theme again. This time I have thought against changing the site. My basic thought process was that a site like Crenk needs to improve to a certain level and then branding has more of an affect, but at the present size it is really more about content and basic usability of the site. I was wondering if this was the thought process of most blog owners or am I in the minority?
2008 has been a very interesting yer here at Crenk. Crenk was launched mainly as a hobby for me to review new startups. Since that time we have had several writers head over to Crenk and help us out with content, including Ades, Kenneth, Mike, Luis, and our newest writer Matt.
In 2008 we have written over 760 posts on various topics. Crenk has also been recognised by some of the biggest names in technology including Guy Kawasaki (who put us towards the top of alltop), Thomas Marban (placing Crenk on Popurls). Additionally, we have our articles syndicated by Reuters, Google News, Livestrong and Computer Shopper.
In terms of subscribers we have had a huge increase throughout the year, mainly because of our partnership with Blogrovr which now means we have over 20,ooo subscribers to Crenk.
In terms of advertisers who have pretty much kept this site in business we would like to thank Adphilia for their hard work in bring in at least some income for the site, as well as TribalFusion.
What can you expect from Crenk for 2009? Crenk in 2009 will be bringing you a lot more startups that are making splashes all around the web, as well as that we hope to offer startups so free advertising on the site. Crenk will also be featuring a lot more top tools posts that help our readers find startups in the same niche. Apart from that you will be able to find more helpful tips and analysis as well as more articles, more freebies and more cool stuff in general.
Thanks for reading Crenk in 2008 and stay tuned cause we will be bringing you even more in 2009.
Here at Crenk we have just reached the magical 500 subscribers mark on Twitter.
Please follow us: http://twitter.com/crenk
Twitter is a microblogging platform that has been really making some strong improvements in the lats year or so. I’m sure there aren’t too many people who don’t currently know about Twitter (that is if your interested in tech). Twitter is basically a huge IM service in which you can only message 140 characters at once, you also able to follow other people and talk with them directly. It is basically a new type of MSN or Yahoo Messenger.
Over the last month or so we have made some big changes here at Crenk and they finally seem to be paying off. Crenk has now been selected to be a default feed in the technology section of Blogrovr.
Blogrovr is a browser plugin that provides users content about the websites that are browsing. Blogrovr is a very simple idea dont brilliantly. We are amazingly honoured to be a default site for Blogrovr and it puts us in great company with sites such as Mashable, Techcrunch, Lifehacker, Engadget, VentureBeat, Centernetworks and more.
If you are already a Blogrovr user then please add Crenk or if your not a user why not?
Here at Crenk we have been looking at making a few changes to our theme, but finally it got to the stage where a new makeover was needed.
Crenk is now sporting a complete new design from top to bottom. Crenk even has a new logo, we wanted to go for a design that would stand out and be a little different from the crowd.
Structure
Crenk has moved away from your typical weblog design to be more of a magazine style. Now we have key articles featured on the home page as well as having category navigation in the header bar. Thus, allowing readers to find the articles that matter to them, be it Products, Software, Web or Mobile Apps.
Navigation
As I mentioned above it is now easier to navigate to categories that you are interested in, as well as this we have added Lijit as our search partner. Lijit is the search tool of choice for Crenk and more than 5,000 web publishers.
Participation
Here at Crenk we have two ways users can participate, submitting tips and writing for Crenk. In the sidebar of every page we have our Tips email, in which users, web publishers, and executives can send us their tips on what we should cover here at Crenk.
Secondly, Crenk is currently looking at expanding it’s current writing staff in order to diversify and establish more timely posts in this current boom in the media business. With social networks taking hold at a global level, mobile apps becoming the wave of the future on all major mobile platforms, start-ups making their mark at high level conferences like TechCrunch 50, it’s almost impossible to capture the scope of the industry what what we have.
Overall
Overall, we hope that this new design really helps our readers to navigate and find more useful information here on Crenk. If you have any suggestions or ideas on what you would like to see on Crenk, then please drop us an email or leave a comment on this post.
Thanks, Crenk Team

Rackspace is our new hosting partner, they have been so professional and helpful. Make sure you look out for a completely new design to Crenk coming out in the next couple of days.
In the last few days you might have noticed we have been having some technical issues here at Crenk. This is due to us trying to migrate all our information to another hosting company. This has now been achieved and everything should resume as normal. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Rackspace for helping us with the migration!
