Boxee has just sent out an email to bloggers alerting them that as of this Friday, they will be removing Hulu from their channel lineup. This comes at the request of Hulu. Apparently Boxee has been working to try to keep Hulu in their lineup for two weeks.
From the Boxee blog post:
we love Hulu. they have built a great product and brand (including one the best Superbowl ads this year)… the response has been amazing. people love watching many of their favorite shows on Hulu via boxee. last week we generated more than 100,000 streams for them…two weeks ago Hulu called and told us their content partners were asking them to remove Hulu from boxee. we tried (many times) to plead the case for keeping Hulu on boxee, but on Friday of this week, in good faith, we will be removing it.
Hulu has also posted on the Boxee removal:
Our content providers requested that we turn off access to our content via the Boxee product, and we are respecting their wishes…Without their content, none of what Hulu does would be possible, including providing you content via Hulu.com and our many distribution partner websites…For those Boxee users reading this post, we understand and appreciate that you’re likely to tell us that we’re nuts. Please know that we do share the same interests and won’t stop innovating in support of the bigger mission.
Boxee only just release onto Mac and Ubuntu on the 8th of January and now they have lost one of their major sources of content. The Boxee service is a very simple one, they provide movies, tv shows and music all in one simple location.
Yesterday I was having a great conversation with Marshall Kirkpatrick (Vice President of Content Development at RWW, not sure what that means) about how to get your blog noticed in the current environment. The discussion started with me posing the basic question “how can I get my blog noticed because we seem to be producing very good content but not getting the rewards”?
It was first mentioned that Problogger is the best source for this information on the web, however I have been reading his site for many years now and most of the content seems to be getting a little reproduced. Additionally, Problogger talks a lot about social media and how to use it to your advantage, but these days everyone has been reading those articles for year and most bloggers use StumbleUpon, Digg, Mixx, Buzz and other very proficiently. If most bloggers are using these tools to their advantage then you still have the same issues, how to stand out from the crowd?
I know that here in Europe a blog that has been on the rise lately is TheNextWeb, but I know these guys have been writing that blog for several years now and they also have one of the best technology conference on the mainland of Europe. Therefore if I want to improve my readership it is a little difficult to just start a conference, or is it worth adding some add-ons to the site such as job board, marketplace or others?
Content is also a major player in this issues, cause most good bloggers say that content is king. However, I think that content is king when you are either a small blog or a large blog, but definitely in the middle content isnt king and it is all about promotion and push.
This is main problem with web 2.0, noise! Currently, there is just simply so much noise in most niche’s, so why instead of writing individual sites and keeping a little revenue, maybe the plan should be to join forces with other blogs and create a larger blog and take a smaller slice of a much larger pie.
I propose this question to you, “how can I get my site to stand out from the rest, especially considering we produce amazing content that is much better than the majority of our competitors”?

The other day I wrote an article about the new Forbes Blog / Advertising Network and how it is taking shape. In the article I also wrote about possible rumours that the networks content might be visible on the Forbes.com sites. I received a tip that the content is already integrated with parts of the site, for example certain keywords are highlighted on the story pages, which opens a box with related content and network content. This box is powered by Lingospot and is quite similar to the technology that is offered by Sphere.
Additionally, after looking at the Forbes site in a bit more depth, I came across the Blog page which has a network integration in the middle column. The integration shows headlines from selected sources within the network. Forbes, why isnt Crenk.com integrated into this section? We obviously have some of the best content around!
SocialThing! is our inaugural partner for Crenked Out! Crenked Out! offers free invites to unique products for Crenk Readers. SocialThing is basically a lifestyle or content aggregator. With most people these days having 2 social network profiles, possible a blog or two, a twitter account, pounce account and more, it is hard to keep up with all this information. SocialThing is trying to provide the product that will bring all of these profiles together in a simple environment, which will allow the users to not only keep up-to-date on all their content but even make some connects that werent previously possible.
SocialThing! has been nice enough to offer 300 invites to Crenk readers. First come first served, so head here to signup.
Joost has announced a deal with Major League Baseball to show the MLB playoffs. Joost also have a lot of other sports content such as the Indy Car Series and the Soccer Channel. They are slowly building a very nice catalog.
Spotplex was touted as a Digg killer by many! It never eventuated! Why do you think it never really grew to be a strong player in the content aggregation market?? Well I know why, CAUSE I CAN NEVER GET IT TO WORK PROPERLY!!
The site itself has very good fundamental and the service could be very very useful but possibly they are having a lot of problems because it provides dynamic and instant content.
Does anyone use Spotplex and what do you think about it service?
