Since its release, the international appeal of the iPhone was in question. Many questioned if markets such as Asia and Central Europe were ready to move away from traditional devices and onto the next generation of Smartphones. One such critique was made about the Japanese market, known for its home grown products with millions of their phones exported to the European and US markets down the years due to their reputation for technological innovation.

Now, it seems that the critics have been proved wrong after a recent survey concerning the iPhones popularity. According to the study carried out by BCN of over 2,300 Japanese retailers, the iPhone holds the top two positions in terms of sales with the 8 GB model having the number one position followed closely by the 16 GB model.

Furthermore, because the results of this survey were released before the iPhone 3G S burst onto the market, chances are that the iPhone is now even higher up the leader board.

These figures must be keeping the top dogs at Apple happy while the rest of the Japanese mobile phone market struggles due to the recession. A recent report carried out by Sky News found that the Japanese retail market is floundering as consumers tighten the purse strings. Now that Apple is planning future iPhones, Apple may be painting a bright future in Asia.

Lovely Charts is a slick new web-based tool for creating flowcharts and wireframes. Features you’d expect from a similar desktop app come standard: copy-paste, undo up to 20 steps, and pan/zoom all work the way you’re used to. Objects snap into place, and the basic drawing tools are all there. The only drawback? You can only save one chart at a time until you upgrade to the pro version. Depending on your needs, though, the 18 euro for 6 months might be worth it to you.

The advantages of having a web-based wireframe app are obvious if you’re a designer who works from home and an office. You can access your stuff from anywhere, and let collaborators work on it if need be. Lovely Charts also comes pre-stocked with some network diagram symbols and wireframe templates that could save you a lot of time. You might want to wait to buy until they implement a few more export formats. JPG and PNG are currently supported, with more on the way.

Interesting news has come our of Technorati today: former boss David Sifry has announced changes that will help bloggers again, like in the old days of Technorati.

Changes include:

Change of design and results on search pages.

Authority filtering. You can now narrow your results based on authority, which really only goes so far when tryign to evaluate the usefulness a blog, or if it is a spam blog.

Charts. You can now see the popularity of a word over time.

New Server Farm. They recently moved from 365 Main to a new colocation center.

It is good news to hear that Technorati is back and trying to satisfy their core customer base that helped them get to where they are today. Recent redesigns have completely turned away several numbers of bloggers from the service and although these changes are going in the right direction, im not too sure if they will be able to get all the bloggers back. Time will tell! Technorati stick to your core customer base, cause Google owns the rest of the blog search market!
