Nerrot is a simple bit torrent searcher that finds the torrent you are looking for. Nerrot is like a Google I’m feeling lucky search. You simply type in the name of what you are looking for and it will popup a download almost instantly. Nerrot though does not have any other features so it is pretty simple as you can see from the above screen shot. Also although the searches are most of the time rite there is no way of detecting if a torrent is fake because there are no comments. I recommend this to people who are just looking to download torrent really quick.

Have you ever need to convert a zip to a 7z or maybe a mp3 to a wav? Well Zamzar is a site that allows you to upload a file or 100mb or less and convert it into any of the supported file types (Check out the list of supported types Here). It is really easy to use and is good when you need to convert a file really quick. There are just 4 quick steps. upload your file, choose the file type you want, enter your email, and click convert. You email is only required so they can send you a link when its done. I love this because if I am running out of my house it will go and convert it for me and then in 10 minutes or less i will get an email from them saying that it has been converted. Also if the file is hosted online you can just put in the URL and it will convert it too. Though I do not think it supports compressed files with passwords. If you need more room to convert files you can always buy a subscription. The lowest is basic and it is 7$ a month and increases you size to 200mb and gives you an online storage of 5gb. So if you need to convert files on the go and then be able to access them then this is the way to go.

Internet Explorer 10 preview required Windows 7 to test out all the cool new features. Internet Explorer 10 supports full HTML5 standards and even supports CSS Flexbox, CSS3 Grid Alignment, CSS3 Muti-column, CSS3 Gradients on background images. You can try these features at IE testdrive site to get a feel of it.

We have extensively covered Firefox 4 here on Crenk:

Mozilla Release Firefox 4 Beta 10: But Developers Want Firefox 5 to Start

It seems as though Firefox 4 is going to grow into becoming the second largest browser on the internet, or maybe even the largest! At the moment in the browser stakes Internet Explorer is still the largest browser, but Firefox is quickly catch, while Chrome is slowly gaining.

Goodbye 3D and now we have a sexy flat logo.

The new logo has been appearing in a number of areas, but there is still no official word from Google (unlike Google).

The new logo was added just before Google Chrome adds a lot of great new features. Its rumoured that Google Chrome will be adding the ability to select multiple tabs, which is handy for managing the tab chaos some of us suffer, and abbreviated tab titles to better distinguish similar pages.

What do you think of the new Google Chrome Logo

Microsoft will be hosting a press even in the US on February 10th to announce the launch of Internet Explorer 9.

Internet Explorer 9 is being seen as an extremely strong product, even more so for users with Windows 7 where it allows individual websites to be pinned to the Start Menu and Windows TaskBar. Any website pinned to the TaskBar can have custom jumplists with only a small amount of added code.

IE9 is not a browser for people who like plug-ins and browser add-ons. In fact the beta version will nag you to remove them in order to have the software working at its fastest. It is definitely a very fast browser and stands up well against its main rival, Google Chrome.

Do you think Internet Explorer can really compete with Chrome and Firefox or is it just a waste of time?

LastPass extension existed to all other popular browsers: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome; and now they will be available for Opera.

Opera is providing a new beta version (Opera 11) for a browser which will support extensions, and fortunately combining browsing with some nice extensions will be possible.

LastPass is a nice a simple tool and very recommendable if you have several passwords to remember and you need to maintain those synchronized.

You can download the Opera extension from this link: https://addons.labs.opera.com/addons/extensions/details/lastpass/

If you are always looking for a way to improve your typing speed and want to know some of the facts about your daily work with the keyboard, the Typing Speed Monitor should fit perfectly: How long you’ve spent typing, what characters you’ve typed most, and provides you with a keyboard visualization that tells you statistics about each of the keys you’ve typed.

I think this tool to be more useful could include some other data about your typing, for example: words we usually mistype, average speed / average mistyping, or even some exercises about how to improve your speed or accuracy.

Mozilla team released a new Firefox version, the 3.6.4, with an interesting milestone: Tab crash protection, preventing your browser from crashing when there’s an error.

Since forever Internet browsers had tons of problems accessing more badly design complex web apps, and the reason always have resided in the plugins used: Adobe Flash, Shockwave, Silverlight and several other that are present in almost any browser session; but now Mozilla Firefox created for their first time in history a version which will prevent the entire browser from crashing when there’s a plugin problem.

If there’s a crash generated by a web site, let’s say using Flash, the tab generating that problem will be reloaded without stopping any other tab or the browser. Besides this update, the new version does not bring us many differences, check the complete changes here.

And you can download directly the latest Mozilla Firefox version from here.

Two years ago I wrote an article on the major updates made to the Flock browser and the impact it would have on social search

Flock, the social browser, is not built on Chrome.

and browsing. Since then Flock, the social browser, has always been that fringe browser that a few people used but didn’t grab the audience it was hoping for. What did help Flock was the fact that it was built on the Firefox browser framework which made it easy to develop for since it was open source. The Flock browser allowed for many unique plug-ins very similar to Firefox, thus offering a seamless user interactive experience with the added bonus of social networking.

This week a huge announcement was made that Flock was leaving the Firefox backbone and moving to Chrome. Touted as a social browser there is definitely something to love about it, but does it really know where it wants to go? The interface has undergone a drastic overhaul moving away from the complex menus and tabs and moving more towards a simple interface with fully customizable group and friend options.

In a world where social platforms like Tweetdeck, Seesmic, and Hootsuite have been integrated into desktops and/or browsers, it feels like Flock is still running too many steps behind. Has Flock lost its luster? Perhaps, but there’s nothing wrong with reinventing yourself.

It’s become useless with many sites killing off support or will be soon. YouTube is due to pull the plug on IE6 on March 13th. Many others are following suite. This is seen as the final blow to IE6, a once great browser that has been battered and bruised by allegations of security weakness and fierce competition from Google Chrome and Mozilla.

A Denver based design company are holding a funeral for the browser at their headquarters and they have built a website at IE6Funeral.com to mark the occasion. You can RSVP to the event on the site and those who are attending are encouraged to wear “funeral attire”.

Internet Explorer Six, known to friends and family as “IE6,” is survived by son Internet Explorer Seven, and grand-daughter Internet Explorer Eight.”

For those of us that are exploring browser options, there’s a lot out there to choose from. With all the pros and cons, the plugins that Firefox

Top 5 Google Chrome plugins.

features makes it hard to break away. We’ve become so accustomed to customizing our experiences in Firefox that when we try other browsers we naturally try to do things that we did in Firefox. Obviously we’re quick to realize that we’re in another browser, and not the Firefox we remember, and naturally we quickly close out and go back to the browser we’re so familiar with.

Now with Chrome on the scene there are noticeable speed differences which make Chrome a more appealing browser in terms of search, but can we mimic the same functionality. The answer is yes and no. Yes in that there are plugins for Chrome that are useful, but also no because these plugins are slowly making their way to users.

But if you’re on Chrome and loving the experience like I am, then here are five plugins that will get you started on the right foot.

AdBlock

The familiar plugin is just as powerful as it is on Firefox. Block unecessary pop-ups, be warned if something wants to load on your page and never worry about surfing the net again. It takes a little doing, but you can get instructions on how to get those ads blocked here.

GreaseMetal

If you’ve installed Grease Monkey on your Firefox browser you know just how useful those little scripts can be in customizing your overall experience. Well Chrome users can now integrate this functionality very easily by just following these easy steps.

Download YouTube Videos

Last night the team at Crenk gathered around to share some of the top video downloaders for Firefox, so it was a natural that one of the plugins today would be a natural fit for Chrome. To gain the same experience of capturing your favorite videos, be sure to install this Chrome video download plugin and give it a try. Some code customization is required.

Bookmarking Plugins

If you’re looking to bookmark your findings on Digg, StumbleUpon or Delicious straight from your browser, then be sure to take a look at the plugins and how you can once again make them a vital part of your search experience.

Twitter Plugin

A Twitter plugin is probably one of the most requested additions to the browser. Until recently there were few options, but now Chrome can boast it’s own Twitter plugin to allow you to update and catch up on updates without leaving your browser window.

So these are some of the most highly requested plugins. It’s not necessarily as easy as with Firefox, as some customization is required, but for those of us savvy enough to experiment with our browsers, the end goal could be big payoffs!

While it has the core functions it lacks in terms of productivity and extra features which could be so easily added.

A great ad-on for Chrome and Firefox called FlyMonkey pretty much fixes all of that. Below, you can see a screenshot of my Twitter with three columns, each serving it own purpose. This is done by adding features to your Twitter page (via a red ‘+’ sign above your screen). You can add extra columns for DMs, replies, mentions and an arsenal of different options.

They also integrated the Bit.ly URL shortener and Twitpic into Twitter. As you are typing a tweet, two options appear below called ‘Photo’ and ‘URL Shortener’. I found these very handy indeed.

So if you want to change your Twitter experience but don’t fancy moving to a third-party alternative, get FlyMonkey.

Have you ever downloaded a less than scrupulous piece of software only to discover the next day that you default browser has been changed and your homepage is some rubbish search engine based in North Korea? I have. So have thousands of others who were attracted by freeware never stopping to think of the scheming companies that lurked behind them. Such as Microsoft.

At the present, when users download IE8, the newest edition of Internet Explorer they will quite obviously have to install it. Now when you’re installing any piece of software you’re given a choice.

a) Quick Install

b) Custom install

In most cases the ‘Quick Install’ is already selected for you and most of us will go right on ahead and press ’Next’. Microsoft copped onto that so that when you install IE by choosing the quick install method your default browser and homepage are changed to please Bill Gates.

Microsoft recently came under fire about these practices you would expect from a smaller more desperate company. They responded by saying on their blog that they were making an update and that by August IE8 will ask your permission to become the default browser first.

“IE will never install, or become the default browser without your explicit consent. However, we heard a lot of feedback from a lot of different people and groups and decided to make the user choice of the default browser even more explicit,” Microsoft said.

IE8 has already been in the spotlight when they released the OMGIGP advertisement which Crenk covered here.

When Flock was launched last fall, it was the browser geared towards the social network savvy surfer. It was a new way to integrate all the most popular social sites and keep them at your finger tips while doing your standard day to day browsing online. No longer were you forced to open tab after tab, window after window for each network you wanted to connect with. Now, with some minor prep time by inputting accounts and passwords, Flock will keep everything on file and load all of your chosen networks as soon as you start your browser.

Flock has just released the latest version of its broswer software, and already it’s looking like the browser to beat. When Google release Chrome, it was a mad dash by early adopters to test out this mysterious new entry into the browser wars. The excitement lost steam pretty quickly as users were left wondering exactly what the purpose of Chrome was because the bells and whistles were just not there. The browser that was meant to be used not seen seemed to be the mantra. Flock flies directly in the face of such philosophy by making sure every aspect of the user interface is useful and interactive.

The new release integrates Media RSS which can now keep the most watch media on the front page of your start window for immediate viewing; pics, movies, podcasts, all accessible with a click of a button. New to the social network offerings is MySpace, which has finally been brought into the fold, allowing users to chat with their friends directly from the sidebar without having to visit the actual site.

Since it’s founding 3 years ago, and with the first release this past fall, Flock has attracted 6 million downloads. A true testament in its efforts to get attention from users. Having been built on Firefox’s code, similarities are welcoming with a taste and flavor all its own.

Joost has channels in a variety of sectors, old television programs, sports, news, music videos and more. It is totally free to watch and can be viewed from any country in the world, unlike Hulu.

When you head over to the site all you need to do is register and then download the plugin that launches the application within your browser, and thats it.

Last week I gave a first 5-minute impression of Google Chrome, the new browser that is supposed to be faster and better than anything else out there. A week later and what seems to be a hundred thousand reviews in the blogsphere later, everyone seems to like it, and no one seems to be using it. Less than 1% of Crenk readers are using it, more people are using Opera belive it or not.

What’s so great about it? Well it’s new and shiny, has a minimalist look and feel to it and consumes about 75% less memory than Firefox does, at least for me on my Windows XP box. Google really seems to have done their homework with regards to chewing up your CPU cycles and there appears to never be a memory leak. Additionally, you just need to type something in what used to be known as the address bar, as it now functions as a search bar and many other things. It’s also fast, but how fast? My seat dyno says slightly faster than Firefox, but to a normal user, it might only feel faster because it’s new.

What’s not so great about it? Well first and foremost, Windows only. As a Mac user, I once again feel like someone put me out in the cold. Lack of any add-ons that I’ve come to love with Firefox is also missing, but if you were coming from Internet Explorer you wouldn’t know what I’m talking about anyway. Dedicated search box is something I miss. Why you ask, since Google answers all questions on it’s own? Because it simply doesn’t. I’ve been using a Firefox add-on called OpenSearchFox for more than a year now; it allows you to add a drop down in Firefox to search any site that has search enabled on it. That means, rather than going to say Netflix and then searching, I can select Netflix from my drop down menu in the search bar and type in my query there. My other gripe is the lack of a status bar. I understand how important screen real estate is, but I like it, I’ve been using the status bar for more than 10 years in browsers, I’m used to it. Lastly, Chrome doesn’t work with all websites yet. One site that I order digital photos from requires a Java plugin, to upload the photos. I have the plugin installed in Windows but the browser doesn’t pick it up. I’m sure small kinks like this will iron themselves out but it’s still an inconvenience.

One of the most interesting Easter eggs is kind of a joke in Chrome. In the address bar type about:internets – then sit back and chuckle, at least someone around the Google camp has a sense of humor. Chrome is interesting, but it’s not a killer app for me yet, nor do I plan on switching. For now, I will use it to beta test website design and other various things on the Internet but Firefox will continue to be my primary browser.

Yesterday Google’s new browser, Chrome was announced so today I downloaded and installed it onto my work Windows XP box to see what all the fuss is about and check for cross compatibility on sites we work on. I spent about 5 minutes poking around, if I can’t figure out how to use a browser in 5 minutes, it’s too complicated for anyone but the most 733t 1337.

Download was very small; it then opens an applet and downloads the rest of the software. Installation requires Firefox to be shut down so Chrome can import all your bookmarks, favorites, history and passwords; this goes quickly and rather painlessly. Next you get a TOS about reporting options for crashes, I denied their request and the install was complete.

Upon launching Chrome for the first time an unusual question is asked, “Do you wish to keep Google as your default search engine?” It’s unusual in that, it’s a Google product and the first thing about this new killer app is to strip out Search, the one thing Google does very, very well. I selected to keep it.

All my bookmarks and history imported, what didn’t was my homepage. I’m a long time iGoogle user and rely on the RSS feeds to get me caught up quickly at a glance to what is going on with the sites I follow. Not there. Instead six white boxes stare at me. A little note tells you that these are your most visited sites. Nice idea, but not for me. I easily look at 50+ sites in six different tabs of iGoogle. There is no apparent way to set a traditional “homepage” only what Google wants you to see.

The other thing lacking is an option to show the status bar. I rely on the status bar while at work and home to see where any link will take my, by hovering over it. There are also several add-ons for Firefox that sit in my status bar that I’ve come to love, from what I can tell in Chrome, there is no status bar option.

On the plus side, it is fast. How fast? I don’t have scientific numbers or pretty pie charts, but it really feels fast. One site that I know uses a fairly common Java plugin to run an app wouldn’t work and there was no option to install it but everything else on the dozen or so sites I quickly browsed seem to work.

Is Chrome the next killer app? Hard to say now, Firefox has such a loyal, loving fan base to it, but I think this could compliment it very well.
