Samsung’s First 3D TV Available

We’ve been waiting for this now for quite a while for this day to arrive. Samsung have just started shipping the first of their HD 3D TVs in the US as the world gets ready for 3D content to start going live. This is a whopping 55 inch TV that is stunning to look at, even when it’s turned off. However, all 55 inches will set you back just under $3,300. Ouch!

Plus, those shutter glasses which we talked about earlier will set you back another few bucks (between $150 and $200 probably) if you ever want to activate the TV’s 3D mode which I assume everyone who just paid an arm and a leg for the thing will.

Both Amazon and Sears are now selling the product with free delivery. So if you fancy watching World Cup 2010 in 3D, order now while stocks last. There’s sure to be a rush for these babies. Last time I checked Amazon there was only two left!

Sony Brings 3D Blu-ray Into Your Home

All the buzz this past CES was the debut of a lot a 3D devices. Personally 3D is just a gimmick for me, something that is supposed to get me into the story with cheap parlor tricks of making me feel like something is coming at me or is going to poke my eye out. I’m not for wearing the funny glasses and having to adjust my eyesight when I’m done, but apparently some people are. With so many newly released movies, new TV’s, and more all going 3D, someone thought it was a good idea, and now Sony is on board with something new.

Sony has created a line of new 3D players that you can now pair alongside your new 3D enabled TV’s. Ranging from $200-$300, the new blu-ray will now engage you with 3D to further “enhance” your moving viewing experiences. The S570 and the S470 series are unique to Sony’s lineup and offer varying experiences. The S570 will come with built in wi-fi, while the S470 requires a wireless USB adapter. Both models offer “Bravia Internet Video and BD-Live, compatibility with the BD Remote app for iPhone and iPod touch, DVD upscaling to 1080p, Dolby TrueHD and dts-HD Master Audio decoding and a monolithic design.”

Sound tempting? Let us know if you’re into this 3D craze or if it’s just a fad.

Sky TV to Launch 3D Channel Next Year

sky logoSince 3D filming was created the only way to marvel at the spectacle was to go to the cinema and pay extra for the pleasure. At the moment, Ice Age 3D is about as close as you’ll get to the 3D experience. However, recently huge advancements have been made such as Fujifilm announcing the world first consumer 3D digital camera. Now, Sky TV in the UK say that they will be offering Europe’s first ever 3D TV service by next year.

“In the next step in the Sky+HD journey, Sky today announced that it will launch the UK’s first 3D channel next year,” said Sky in a press release

“The service will be broadcast across Sky’s existing HD infrastructure and be available via the current generation of Sky+HD set-top boxes.” This is good news as the UK has just undergone a massive nationwide digital switchover and people having to change their set-top boxes all over again would anger some.

However, those wanting to enjoy 3D films, entertainment and sport will have to change their TV for a 3D ready TV. These are expected from large companies such as Panasonic and will be on sale in 2010 to coincide with the launch of the 3D service.

“3D is a genuinely ‘seeing is believing’ experience, making TV come to life as never before. Just like the launch of digital, Sky+ and HD, this is latest step in our commitment to innovating for customers.” said Sky.
