It Is All Back on Again PayPerPost and Techcrunch

There has been so many bloggers writing about Techcrunch and PayPerPost today. The situation is that Google has punished PayPerPost because of their service (which is selling posts and basically text links), thus putting them out of business under that site and brand.

Then Izea (PayPerPost) CEO Ted Murphy has had a cheap shot at Techcrunch, saying basically because Google are punishing him, they should also punish Techcrunch for saying at the end of every month “thank you to our sponsors”. So Petty. I think this is all a bit over the top and dont overly want to get into the argument. Therefore, here are the people talking about it and their thoughts:

  1. Andy Beard says:

Sites have been penalized for pagerank passing links in their sidebar for advertisers, effectively what you have in your sidebar.

RWW were also previously a little careless on this, but now have nofollow on their links in the sidebar (Rishard thanked me for pointing it out recently) and they added nofollow in their thanks posts.

Ultimately it is Google being petty or not defining the rules and sticking to them themselves, but what Techcrunch are doing, if you look at the post referred to by Ted, is providing PageRank passing links to advertisers, and that is what Google are giving the penalties for.
