Hotmail Show Banner Display Advertising in the Wrong Sizes

Analysis

I have been noticing a lot lately that there has been numerous times on very large sites, in which I have seen banner display advertising of a certain size in a position of a completely different size. In this instance it was found on my Hotmail account home page. As we all know Hotmail is owned by Microsoft and Im sure Blackberry wouldnt be happy seeing their advertising dollars going to waste cause you cant see half the ad.

Why would Hotmail do this? Simple, because currently the best sized ads for display advertising in which pays the most is 300×250, so that is the ad they are showing, however showing it in a 728×90 slot which normally generates less.

I would be keen to make a list of other sites who also have the same practices. So far we have:

  • Hotmail
  • The Pirate Bay

Who else?
