I have been having a lot of problems with my iPhone 3G lately (wasn’t because I had it in my pocked on a night out and went to the bar on the beach!) One day I came back and my iPhone 3G jsut wouldnt charge. Thus, I thought it might be a battery issue. I bought a new battery and then followed this video and it worked perfectly.
Anyways, it turned out that it wasnt the battery and now it has to be the charging port. Thus, I have bought a charging port and now im about to follow this video on how to change a charging port.
Hopefully these videos help you as they have helped me sort out my iPhone 3G.
Computers are just like anything else, they need attention and maintenance. Even though Mac’s are known the world over to be reliable and quality computers, they still need some pretty routine things done. Just like a car, you can’t perpetually ignore it and expect that it will run forever. Here’s a list of some of the routine operations you should be doing regularly to your Mac so you can make it run better and longer:
Disk Space
Checking your disk space is the first thing you should do. Every model comes with a different hard drive size. You can go online and look up your model and see how big your hard drive is. You can check this simply by double clicking on your HD icon on your desktop. In the bottom bar of the window that pops up, you’ll be able to see how much is left. If you have less than half of your space left, then you should probably start cleaning up your hard drive. Go through all of your files and applications and see what you don’t use or programs that you just don’t need anymore. Rarely does anyone do this and all that extra junk is cluttering up your computer and making it run slower. You should be doing this on a regular basis.
Programs
If you’re noticing slow performance, look at how many programs you run at any one time. Some people set their computer to automatically start programs when the computer is turning on. Though this feature is handy for those who need specific programs all the time, the majority of users simply have too many programs running at once. If you only open up the programs that you need at the time, then you’ll see a noticeable difference in the way your computer runs.
Widgets
Widgets are the little icons that rest below the screen. They’re quick links to the applications and the sit in your dock. If you’ve ever seen someone with practically every application on their computer just resting in their doc, then you should realize that these widgets consume critical power from the processor and memory. You might have thought that it’s harmless to keep all of those applications resting in your dock, but in actuality, it’s taking up a lot of your computer’s resources, even when they’re not active.
Disk Utility
This is another way to speed up your Mac’s performance. You can go to the disk utility and select your computer’s internal hard drive and then click Repair Permission. This will take some time, but the results will be substantial. Doing this every month will check and fix your Mac’s internal hard disk space and do wonders for its operations optimization.
All of these steps are good to do regularly in order to keep things running smoothly. If you ever have an issue with performing any of these tasks, then you can go online for some Technical Support. Not everyone is computer savvy and there’s nothing wrong with that. You could also look online for other ways that you can optimize your computer’s performance.
iPad by Apple is a truly amazing tablet. It lets you do practically everything you can expect out of a tablet and no wonder if it exceeds your expectations. The best part of an iPad is that you can even use it to earn good money by becoming a developer. Now you can always develop new and attractive applications for iTunes App store, but what many people don’t know is that you can even develop Games for an iPad. Now that sounds interesting, isn’t it?
It indeed sounds lucrative to be able to create your own iPad games. You can use your own created game to use an as example of your skills for your prospective employers, as part of your portfolio, and of course, to earn money by selling it on App Store. What is important to note, however, that it is anything but a child’s play to create iPad games. One would need to dedicate a lot of time for mastering the skills that are necessary to create the game applications. You should be ready to spare a lot of your time as the whole process calls for much effort and considerable time. However, it is certainly not an impossible job; if you are determined you can do it.
Here is some information on what is required to create games for an iPad.
• Learn Objective C
Objective C is the programming language that is universally used to create applications not only for iPad, but also for iPod and iPhone. This process is time consuming and will require you to spend some dedicated time to study the subject everyday for some months at least. It might be easier to get yourself enrolled in a technical school to learn the subject in a most professional manner.
• Join the Apple’s iOS Developer Program
It costs 99 dollars per year to join this program. When you register yourself, you are allowed to download the latest iPad software development kit or SDK in short, test the developed applications on a virtual iPad and then finally upload it to App Store for selling.
• Develop and Code
Once you have gained the required skills, you can then start developing the game concept and start coding it. You may want to hire a graphics designer to do the graphics for your dream game; otherwise you would need to study to master the skill of graphics designing also.
• Testing Phase
It is very important that you test your game extensively before uploading it to App Store for selling. You can also distribute it to some of your friends with iPad to know their feedback. Catch and fix as many bugs as possible.
• Submit
Once the game has passed the testing phase, you can submit it to iTunes Connect through the “Program Portal” under your Developer account. The Developer Certificate given to you at the time of registration should be valid. You may not know but this certificate needs to be renewed every six months. Once it has expired, it can be purchased again via the Developer account.

There is no doubt about the fact that blogs help to further the cause of businesses. Blogging also needs some planning, organization and clarity about the aim and purpose of the blog. The most important thing is that the blog must be just right and fit into the business perspective and appear to be an extension of it.
Points to remember while planning the blog
How visitors will navigate the site for content- The internet visitor has a short attention span and little patience for fluff-he wants to get straight to the point, and get to the content he needs. Visitors either scroll down for the relevant title, or search from the newest. Therefore blog posts can be placed in excerpts on the home page, or titles listed, or assigned to categories which can then be searched.
Include the search option-this simplifies things for visitors who can use keywords in their search and get straight to the relevant post.
First timers who browse- A first time visitor would like to browse through every part of the blog. It would make things easier if internal links and references could be placed as options.
Active posts that invite comments- Visitors seem to like their opinion being solicited and like to post their comments. The blog can decide to be an active one and also post these comments for others to see.
Main website menu in blog- this will help visitors reach the main website straight from the blog, and will help to improve website traffic.
Easily spotted menu- visitors should not have to search for the main menu and therefore it is better to place it on top so that it is clearly visible.
With these clarifications, the blog will take a shape and design that will help to push the blog in the preferred direction and visitors will find it easily accessible.
Blog content-when and what
The next crucial decision is about the blog content.
Frequency- Should blog posts be added every day, or alternate days, weekly or monthly? This is a tricky question, again linked to the perspective of the business owner. Experts believe that if regular posts are not seen, blogs die out and are ignored by search engines. If the blog has regular visitors then thrice a week makes sense, since they would like to read new material each time. If however, the blog just expresses expert opinions and is informative about topics then it need not be so frequent, and posts may be added as and when a new topic is introduced. Infrequent posts must not mention dates since dates may reveal that the post is old, and the reader will lose interest.
Personal or business content- Small business owners prefer personalized content to get the visitors involved about every aspect of the business. Including personal details, pictures and photos gets the visitors interested and more involved. A bigger business will have a blogging team and these blogs will be more business oriented, and used for promoting public relations, sharing news, advertising an event and so on.
Active posts with visitor participation- Comments from visitors seems like an interesting prospect but this can also have an adverse impact for a business if negative comments are posted or some unpleasant remarks are made. Comments need to be constantly monitored, and if found harmful, they must be removed before they cause damage.
Blogs offer tremendous opportunity, but it is “to each, their own”. Businesses need to figure out what suits their business the best, in terms of blog content, design and all other intricate details.

As with all applications within the Microsoft Office suite, Access is a powerful and easy to implement program which can be used to effectively manage your data. Whether a completely paperless office will ever exist or not is open to speculation, but there’s no denying that we’re increasingly moving in that direction.
In the world of commerce, losing important contact details can be catastrophic. Scrabbling around in drawers looking for a crucial business card, without which a project will simply grind to a halt, can be a terrifying prospect. Even in our personal lives we’ve seen our list of phone numbers almost double over the last couple of decades as people have steadily acquired mobiles. Whichever way you look at it, the age of paper phone books is slowly drawing to a close (according to the Local Government Association, unwanted copies of the Yellow Pages create 75,000 tons of waste paper annually).
There are plenty of ways to store such information electronically – you could just type a long list in a Word document, for instance. However, this is not nearly the most functional or efficient method.
Excel and Access are perhaps the best tools for the job, and today we’re going to look at how you can use the latter to create an electronic phone book.
For the purposes of this tutorial we’re going to assume you are using Microsoft Access 2007. If you have a different version of the application, there may be some subtle variations between the programs but the fundamentals remain the same.
Step by Step: Creating an Access Phone Book
As with many of the Office applications, you’ll be no doubt pleased to hear that Access does most of the hard work for you. There is a template for precisely the task we’re about to undertake together, and it couldn’t be simpler to perform. Read on however, and we’ll run you through each step in detail. You’ll need to be connected to the Internet to follow the template wizard.
- Open Access (this should be under the Start menu in the Microsoft Office tab)
- When Access opens, you’ll be faced with the Getting Started window in which you should see the Featured Online Templates section. Here you’ll be able to select the Contacts option. This lets Access know that we are looking to download a template with editable contact information.
- Before hitting the Download button, choose a name for your phone book. Once this is done a new window titled Getting Started with Contacts will open – feel free to watch the videos giving you more information on the process, or close it and move on to the next step.
- Now we get to the data entry portion of the task at hand. Click on New Contact which will produce a Contact Detail window with a variety of tabs. If you’re not there already, select the General tab. From here we can put in contact details for each individual we wish to archive, including addresses and phone numbers.
Don’t feel that you have to create two separate databases for both work and home – you’ll notice at the bottom of the window that you can specify whether a contact is for personal or professional use. Afterwards, you can filter your search for either when searching through your phone book. With this system, you can keep the addresses and contact numbers of your family members in the same place as your colleagues’ details.
- After completing the first lot of details, select Save and New. This will give you a fresh Contact Detail window in which you can repeat the last step for as many times as necessary. Once you’re finished added contacts, hit Save and Close.
- You can now specify how you want your contacts appear in the database by utilizing the column headings. Typically, your contacts will be displayed in alphabetical order by name.
Five minutes later, and you’re done! Hit Phone Book to finalize the database and take a look. You can search through your new contacts database using the Access control panel, quickly jumping to the exact person you need without having to flip through a notepad or rolodex. In fact, now you’ve got everything safely backed up on the computer you can delight in chucking all those hastily-written scraps of paper in the bin. One less piece of clutter on the desk is always worth a few minutes of your time!

I have been setting up Linux servers a lot lately and I came across this great step by step guide that outlines how to install an Ubuntu Server as a LAMP Server. LAMP stands for Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP. This step by step process helps to make the process as easy as possible and even if you dont have Linux Server experience Im sure you will be able to follow the process.
Recently I launched my own server and its the first time I have ever done this. Im running a Red Hat Linux server and I wanted to install Webmin, but I didnt really know how. Thus, I thought we would run through an installation guide of Wedmin, but this time on Ubuntu and the new Ubuntu 11.04.
Edit /etc/apt/sources.list file
sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list
Add the following lines
deb http://download.webmin.com/download/repository sarge contrib
deb http://webmin.mirror.somersettechsolutions.co.uk/repository sarge contrib
Save and exit the file
Now you need to import GPG key
wget http://www.webmin.com/jcameron-key.asc
sudo apt-key add jcameron-key.asc
Update the source list
sudo apt-get update
Install webmin
sudo apt-get install webmin
Now you need to access webmin using http://serverip:10000/ once it opens you should see similar to the following screen
Thanks to a new virus which makes users believe all of their data has been deleted, computer users everywhere are in mass panic and repair shops are busier than ever. This new virus is pure genius and is, as old-school hackers would put it, a “truly righteous” hack. It exploits a loophole in Java which gives the virus god-rights on the computer and installs without the user ever knowing. Unlike most viruses today which trick the user into thinking they have a virus and clicking ‘OK’ to clean it up (which actually installs it), it is embedded in webpages which use Java and installs silently. And since nearly everyone has Java turned on to surf the internet, it installs quietly and effortlessly. Suddenly, all the computer’s files, icons and folders are “gone.” Panic ensues as users frantically try to figure out how to recover their “lost” data. But what has really happened is that the virus has simply hidden every file on the computer! Genius, right? I can only imagine the developers are sitting back having a good laugh about it all.
So what do you do if you get hit by this lovely virus? A non-techy person could take it to a computer repair shop and spend anywhere from $85-$150 to get it fixed. Or for you geeks, you could fix it yourself using the following steps:
(Please note the following steps are for experienced users only – if you are not comfortable performing any of the below steps, take the computer to a professional!)
1) Immediately boot into Safe Mode (with networking) and do not leave this until you are done! (Mashing F8 at the boot screen will do this on most computers – read the boot screen if F8 doesn’t do the trick)
If you have to reboot at any time, make sure you boot back into Safe Mode!
2) Download and run RKill: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/rkill. This will terminate the virus from running and allow you to clean up the computer. Any of the download links should work – they just have various names to confuse viruses.
3) You need to be able to see the folders/files which are hidden. To do this, do the following:
Click your start menu
In the ‘run’ field, type “cmd” and hit enter
Type: c:*.* /d /s –h
**The virus may make files read-only as well. If so, include –r.
**If the virus makes files system files, add –s.
Do NOT add any unnecessary –r or –s commands. Only use these commands if needed.
4) Make sure you have the following programs installed and updated:
Remove ANY other antivirus program you have as most don’t live up to their promises and often do more harm than good (ESPECIALLY Norton, McAfee and AVG).
5) Run a FULL scan on both Security Essentials and Super AntiSpyware.
6) Clean up your registry! (If not comfortable with this, pay for a professional cleanup!)
Go to Start –>Run–>’regedit’ and hit enter, then ‘Ok’ or ‘Yes’
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER–>Software–>Microsoft–>Windows–>CurrentVersion–>Run
i. Remove anything which looks suspicious and is not a file you recognize. For instance, an entry with a name like FKA546542EJJAL and stored in a temp file is probably a virus (EXAMPLE ONLY). This is also a good time to remove unnecessary programs from starting up at boot time.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER–>Software–>Microsoft–>WindowsNT–>CurrentVersion–>Winlogon
i. Again, remove anything suspicious. If you don’t see anything obvious, DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING.
Go to HKEY_USERS–>’user name’ or ‘.DEFAULT’–> Software–>Microsoft–>Windows–>CurrentVersion–>Run
i. Remove suspicious files as mentioned above
ii. Do this for EVERY user
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE–>SOFTWARE–>Microsoft–>Windows–>CurrentVersion–>Run
i. Remove suspicious files (be EXTRA careful here as some of these files are necessary for system files to run at startup. Again, if not sure, take it in for a professional cleanup!)
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE–>SOFTWARE–>Microsoft–>WindowsNT–>CurrentVersion–>WinLogon
i. Double click on ‘Shell’ and make sure it ONLY says ‘explorer.exe’. If there is anything after it, delete it!
ii. Double click on Userinit and make sure it ONLY says ‘C:Windowssystem32userinit.exe,”. If there is anything after it, delete it!
7) Lastly, do a quick file cleanup
Go to C:WindowsSystem32
i. Sort by Date Modified – click twice so you see the most recent date on top
ii. Going from the date you got infected (hopefully you are doing this the same day or the next day) remove any files which look suspicious (yet again, if you don’t know what you are doing, take it to a professional!)
Go to C:Windows and do as above but look at folders as well as files
Delete cookies and temp files (any self-respecting geek knows how to do this already)
So by now you have:
1) Made your files viewable and usable again
2) Removed the virus and any associated viruses or malware through using the recommended software
3) Removed registry entries to prevent anything bad from loading on startup and thus re-infecting your machine
4) Removed any negative system entries which may also be contributing to the problem.
You might have even discovered you had other spyware, malware or viruses you didn’t know about throughout all this. But if you did everything correctly, you should be clean. If not, now is definitely a good time to take the computer in for a professional cleanup as your machine likely has bigger problems than you were aware of. Good luck!
**Please note that running these commands will make EVERY file on the system viewable and editable, including previously hidden system files you shouldn’t mess with. Use extreme caution when working with files after doing this. If you aren’t comfortable with this, consider paying for a professional cleanup.
