Crenk is Getting Greatly Improved!

You might have noticed that a lot of articles on Crenk have been removed. This isn’t exactly the case, we have actually made a huge amount of them private.

Crenk is going through a major transition period and we are going to greatly improve the amount and quality of our articles. All old articles have been made private and we will be going through them one by one and getting them republished when they have been adequately improved. Ohh.. and of course with a lot more opinions! For a long time I have been sick and tired of pushing out articles that I wasnt happy with, so its time we got rid of them and only published articles we are proud of!

Along with improved tech news you will also see more reviews (web and mobile apps), plus a lot more fun geeky viral content.

Overall, Crenk is going to be a lot more fun, with articles that appeal to the mainstream technology geek.

This is the moment to let us know what you would like to see here on Crenk! Any thoughts.. drop them below in the comments.

p.s. did I mention less crappy ads!

Crenk on the Huffington Post UK

In great news, I have just started writing for the Huffington Post UK. You can head over and check out my Huffington Post Profile here and you can also check out my first article “Amazon Finally Launch Digital Video Game Download Store in the UK“.

I am planning on writing a few articles per week on the Huffington Post, but the majority of articles will be on here.

Recently, we have had a lot of issues with the site and some functionality, but we have been working hard to fixed that and everything is slowly starting to come together. Thus, expect a lot more great articles to go live very soon.

Google Panda Got It Wrong! Scrapers Out Ranking Original Content: Crenk Example

There are thousands of blogs that have been effected by Google’s recent Panda update. After viewing the 3,300 comments on this article via the Google Help Forum it seems as though they dont caremuch about feedback on their results.

I wanted to write a quick article here on Crenk to show how Google’s Panda update has hurt our site. I’m hoping that someone from Google actually reads this article and notices that there is still a big issue here!

Yesterday one of our authors wrote an amazing how to article titled: How to Download and Burn Hulu Movie to DVD.

The article is completely original, it’s over 400 words in length and provides a detailed step by step guide. This article is the epitome of original content!

I wanted to see where this article was actually ranking within Google for the keywords: burn hulu movie to dvd.

I would have thought that the original Crenk article would have been in the top 50 at least. However, after searching the top 100 article we didn’t appear. Bad times!

Then, I discovered that 4 websites scraping our content are ranking within the top 100, one even ranks just outside the top 10. How is this providing good search results?

It would be great if someone from Google could please take a look and let us know why this is happening!

Crenk Using Hello Bar to Support the Red Cross

Here at Crenk you might notice a new bar at the top of the page. This product is from Hello Bar and helps webmasters to add header bars to the top of their websites.

Crenk has decided to use Hello Bar to ask our readers to donate to the Japan Earthquake clean up via the Red Cross.

The Hello Bar comes from UK design shop digital-telepathy. If you haven’t used Hello Bar before, you’ll need a new account; just sign up with the invite code “helpjapan.”

Crenk is in the Cloud: Rackspace Cloud

Here at Crenk you might have noticed the lack of posts for the past few days. Crenk has been moved to the Cloud and specifically the Rackspace Cloud.

The whole process on moving to the Rackspace Cloud was amazingly simple. Rackspace have made it very easy to upload your content via FTP, create the zones, add and edit email addresses and control MySQL databases, etc. I’m really happy we have finally moved to the Rackspace Cloud service and this will provide Crenk with a lot more flexibility and room to grow.

From here on out you will see a lot of great changes to Crenk. Crenk will be adding more content, higher quality content and provide more articles for the average internet user.

Google: Crenk Isnt a Content Farm!

Last week Google released some major changes to their search algorithms. The aim of this update was to push content farms and low quality content sites further down the list.

Amit Singhal and Matt Cutts wrote on the Google blog:

This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on.

Since that time we have noticed that our organic traffic from Google has nosedived. Crenk isnt a content farm and we aren’t a low quality content source!

Can someone at Google please get in touch and let us know why we are being heavily punished!

P.S. This seems to have changed our traffic numbers, but somehow the content scraper that is HuffingtonPost hasn’t lost any traffic at all.
