Incoming Announcements for iPod/iTunes

applelogoApple’s has more news for us, and they are going to make it official this Wednesday, September 9 at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. So, what’s going to be? New versions for iPod Touch with cameras included (maybe including iPod nano) and new features for iTunes.

There are a lot of rumors, which unfortunately are only that, just rumors. Marco Arment made a few guesses around all those and here’s a quick review about what he said:

  • New iPod touch version with the following features: camera, double the storage capacities, and new pricing: 8 GB for u$s149, 16 GB for u$s199, 32 GB for u$s249, 64 GB for u$s349.
  • New iPod nano version with camera. But they will offer only one model: 8gb for u$s99
  • iPod classic out of the market.
  • New pricing for the iPod shuffle: u$s59.

You want more? iTunes will include new social network features; and this event will possibly have a special guest: Steve Jobs.

apple02

Yes, I didn’t mention anything about the Apple Tablet. Seems that there’s not going to be any announce around that, and they could possibly wait until next year to say something official about it.

Microsoft CEO Summit 2009

ceologoMicrosoft, since 1997, annually presents a very exclusive summit dedicated only to the most important CEOs around the planet, “Microsoft CEO Summit“. This year’s topic were dedicated, of course, about the recession and global crisis, and how those are impacting on technologies and companies.

The event took place a few days ago, May 19 – 21, at Microsoft Conference Center in Redmond. But if you are thinking that an event for around 100 people (over 105 attended) it shouldn’t sound like a big deal, well it is. Not only over 100 of the most important decisions-makers around the planet were there, they talk and discuss about their next strategies and even Bill Gates appeared in the sessions.

You won’t find much information about the event, that is completely closed for media or public. But you will find some short videos about what they’ve been discussing. Steve Ballmer talked about the state of innovation in technology and the future of IT industry, Bill Gates about the economic impact and some of the work that the “Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation” is doing.

optimism

And they gave a clear message about this crisis and technology, they all feel “optimistic” about what’s coming.

I sure hope they are right.

Google I/O Developers Conference at San Francisco

io-logoGoogle’s I/O conference it’s just around the corner, this developers gathering will be held in San Francisco, Moscoe Center, within the next few days May 27 – 28.

There are over 100 speakers announced officially (of course the disclaimer of “subject to change” is present as always), that represents many companies (around 80% are Google’s, of course) like Apple, IBM, Mozilla, Facebook, MySpace, Yahoo and many many others.

The main topics will be AJAX, APIs & Tools, Chrome, Google Web Toolkit, Geo and Mobile. To check on the complete schedule check this link.

If you check the confirmed conferences so far, some that could caught your attention: “Mastering the Android Media Framework”, “Google Friend” topics, “Developing Extensions for Google Chrome”, V8 JavaScript Engine, Eyes-Free interaction with Android, Cloud services and Google.

Here’s a small intro for Ryan Barret’s conference “Transactions Across Datacenters”.

Ticket’s pricing? $400. More than interesting if you ask me.

Hope that we can read a lot of feedback from these conferences, since last year’s event showed us one of the first demonstrations of Google’s Android mobile phone OS.

BREAKING NEWS: Apple Not Part of MacWorld Expo

A cropped version of :Image:SteveJobsMacbookAi...
Image via Wikipedia

My writings, my podcasts, and basically my predictions have come true. Today it was announced that Apple will no longer be a part of MacWorld Expo, the very event that was almost defined by the very company.

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, will deliver the opening keynote for this year’s Macworld Conference & Expo, and it will be Apple’s last keynote at the show.”

This is monumental ladies and gentleman, MacWorld was defined as the definitive spot where Steve Jobs, Apple, black turtle necks, and Mac fanboys. Whether it’s the economy, or the reason they state in the press release, it’s not surprising that Apple would make this move.

For those of us that have been around long enough to look fondly on this Expo, this is indeed an end of an era. Without the draw of Apple, what will become of this once dominant conference?

December 11-12 ~ Paris, France
This event has to be the highlight of the European calendar. Showcasing some of the best startup companies within Europe it a must for all technology enthusiasts who are looking to network with the elite in the industry.

Conferences: Are They Worth The Price Of Admission?

Over the last few weeks there has been a lot of talk about conferences, and with all this talk I have been thinking, do these conference actually work for startups?

Right at this very moment there are two major conferences being held, Techcrunch 50 and Demo 08. The style of these conferences are total the opposite, but do they provide any real value for startups who attend and present?

All the startups that present at these conferences tend to get a lot of support straight off the bat from PR companies, blogs and other news sources. However, once the conference is finished I really dont think these startups get any more coverage from PR companies and blogs, and then they have to really start to fight for market share within their niches. Thus, spending thousands and thousands of dollars to attend and present at these conferences, does it actually pay off for the startups to actually become a household name in their niche?

TechCrunch50 Showcases Startups

TechCrunch has been a well known site for everything tech and media related. With millions of readers and followers, TechCrunch has done an amazing job in helping young fledgling startups get noticed. What began as TechCrunch 20, then 40, and now 50, it looks to once again be the opportunity that every startup is waiting for.

In just under a week the San Francisco Design Center Concourse will be transformed into a showcase floor for entrepreneurs, new technology, and VC’s looking for the “next big thing.” The DemoPit, where all the magic happens. Paired with this display are panels of speakers who will share their thoughts and expertise with the attendees, expected to be over 900 this year alone.

The event gives the startups an opportunity to share, explain, and possibly have their ideas funded. Companies have a high chance of being launched at this event, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Thanks to all the sponsors who help support and foster an event where these startups can find growth and a possible future!

Keep track of this event, and check back here for some of the highlights of the event.
