When it comes to Twitter, you might not think you can use their search to save money, much less become more environmentally conscious. But you would be wrong; it is easy to use their hashtag system to do just that. That is because it doesn’t just link you with specific groups or businesses. Instead, you find updates that are always changing that use the same topic for interest.

You might be wondering what that means for you. Basically, you will be able to find anyone who might be talking about saving money or living a more sustainable life in that moment. Anyone talking about it anywhere could have a good tip or a link that could benefit you, and you will have the power to see whatever is more recent any time you look.

Now, these ten hashtags can be used to save a little cash while create a more self sufficient, sustainable and eco-conscious lifestyle. All with a simple search and follow.

5 For Saving Money

#savings – This hashtag will give you a ton of options for deals which are linked from both personal and company profiles. However, sometimes they can be a little hard to navigate because they use locations to specify the deal. For example, you can find savings in Boston, or in Atlanta. You might want to narrow it down a bit to find what you are looking for.

#frugality – If you are looking for tips on how to save money in your day to day life, you will get a lot of them here. #frugality is a hashtag used by people all over the web to tell about how they managed to save a few dollars, or links to specials they have come across. But mostly, there are ideas such as biking, using phones during certain hours or places to buy items more cheaply second hand.

#deals – This are almost exclusively online deals from companies or websites that are third party for the stores. They provide small explanations of those promotions, with a link out. AmazonDeals commonly uses this hashtag, as does SheSpeaksDeals and others.

#bargains – I have noticed a lot of freebies posted under this Twitter hashtag, which is a plus. Otherwise, it is just a way of expressing excitement for personal account users on getting deals, which can give you a nudge in the right direction. There are also some savings sites that use it to talk about clearance or sales items on online shops.

#coupons – Everyone loves coupons, right? This hashtag will point you to coupons from all over the web, as well as for in-store deals you can print. Sometimes they just send you to linked sales pages from local shops, which shows specials currently being offered. This becomes a much more active hashtag between the months of October – December, especially with Black Friday right around the corner, and predictions popping up everywhere.

5 For A Sustainable Life

#sustainability – Saving resources is an important part of protecting our world. Especially in a time where the natural items given from the Earth are so often exploited, with increasingly dire consequences. #sustainability is all about eliminating waste through better methods of extraction, policies and using what is already available to us before going for something new.

#slowfood – You know all about “fast food” and the problems that come along with it. Now, there is a focus on “slow food”, or that which is gained, made and traded in a more positive way. This assists in both the planet, the people and local economies, and can be equated to fair trade on a very basic level. This hashtag has tweets all about that process, and how you can get involved.

#sustainable – Rather than used alone, this hashtag is usually combined with others that give it context, such as #greenliving, #corporateresponsibility and others. It is similar to the #sustainability hashtag, in that it informs and promotes on the process of more replenishing and responsibly using resource, as well as finding better ways to do things.

#susty – This is a more obscure tag that uses an abbreviation to speak about sustainability. It is usually put in posts by individual users rather than foundations or companies. It is also almost always partnered with other hashtags to generate context and make it easier to share with others.

#sustainableagriculture – Sustainable agriculture is not a new concept, but it is one that it just developing mainstream followers and interest. It is a means or producing and transporting food that is positive for the environment, as well as for the people who consume it. This usually include organic farms, but also anything that is part of a program to deplete hunger on both local and global scales, through distribution. You will also find posts dedicated to proper animal treatment in the agricultural process, as well.

Conclusion

It is interesting how sustainability and money saving go hand in hand. When you make a real effort to reduce the use of resources, you will be reusing or limiting the use of a number of products. This means cash saved for you as your spending goes down, and a positive feeling of helping yourself and others out.

China has started to work on their own space station. Rebuffed from the U.S. led space station, China is launching a module to practice docking at its own station planned for 2020.

The eight-ton module will serve as an orbital testbed for China to practice robotic rendezous and docking techniques, a necessary skill for the assembly and operation of the manned outpost China intends to build around 2020.

Comscore have claimed that our of 4.3 billion video ads in the US in March, 1.2 billion of those were on Hulu. This seems to be an amazing amount of the market, but Google is yet to really venture into video streaming advertising (which Im sure will be coming on YouTube very soon).

Internet users spent a total of 1.9 billion minutes watching video ads last month, ComScore said. Out of those, Hulu was the top property, delivering 520 million minutes of video ad viewing. Overall, video ads accounted for 12.7 percent of all ads viewed online in March, while the average video ad ran for 24 seconds.

• The New Directory: certain users may have seen the preview of this already, but it is now live for everyone. Please check this out if you haven’t already!
• Scheduled Reports: advertisers can download their ad data to CSV on the fly, and also schedule recurring reports to be emailed to them under Buy Ads > My Ads > Reports.
• Leaderboards: we have setup an initial set of leaderboards based on different performance criteria that can be found under Buy Ads > Leaderboards.
• Bundles: we have packaged together groups of sites into “bundles” that advertisers can use to make targeted ad buying even easier.
• Performance by Ad: advertisers can now see how each creative performs compared to others.

Im a big fan of the new user interface for Buying Ads. It seems like it is going to be a lot easier to find the best sites and find the demographic you are wanting to target as an advertiser.

Are you one of those people? Rumors have circulated across various sites that Apple has been courting Verizon as the next network to gain access to the iPhone as early as Quarter 1, 2011. While all signs point to yes, the evidence is not conclusive and thus speculation persists. Considering the dominance that the iPhone has on the cell phone market, it’s safe to assume that the majority not using the iPhone are either Blackberry or Android users, with others following into the minority of other OS platforms.

In market research conducted by Morpace, subscribers on Verizon alone are awaiting the transition of the iPhone onto the Verizon network. Of 1000 people surveyed, 23% said they’d most likely buy it, while a whopping 51% of Verizon subscribers said they were waiting to buy it. This segment of Verizon subscribers could bolster Apple’s numbers heavily when/if the transition takes place as rumored. AppleInsider even predicts that it could put Apple in the lead, far ahead of it’s competitors. The platforms mostly threatened by the iPhone being offered on Verizon would be Blackberry and Android, so it will be interesting to see how this will effect the numbers.

If it happens, Apple could see quite a profitable 1st Quarter. So where do you stand? Are you waiting for the iPhone to be offered on another network or are you happy with your Blackberry, Android, or other phone platform?

• 87% of spam analyzed came from botnets.
• Linux only used 36% of botnets to send spam.
• English language spam is the most used.
• Portuguese spam appeared as the second most used with 6%, large differences with other languages.
• The most common spam is the pharmaceutical spam. You know, Viagra stuff and that kind of thing.

Here’s a little sample about those pharmaceutical spam:

As part of this investigation, the analysis found that most of these machines are running also an open source mail transfer agent like Postfix or SendMail, which they’ve been configured to open up all the necessary ports, making those servers an easy target for hackers.

Most organizations use these kinds of “free” platforms to control their mail infrastructure and do not realize the big security concerns involved on each of them if those are not configured correctly.

Let’s take a quick look of how does it works:

1. You, the sender, and the receiver have the TigerText app installed. Yes, both devices must have installed this application; but there’s a free reader option.
2. Before sending the text message, you set the lifespan of the text message, for example 2 hours.
3. If the receiver reads it or not, the message is deleted from the sender and receiver device. There’s also the option for “Delete on Read”, that will last until the receiver opens it.

TigerText works with iPhone, iPod Touch and several BlackBerry devices (beta stage). Here’s the complete list of supported BlackBerry: Bold 9700, Bold 9000, Tour 9630, Curve 8500 & Curve 8900 Series. TigerText does not currently support the Storm, older Curves, Pearl, or other Legacy Blackberry Devices. Android will be available soon.

The only free option for this application is the reader, where you can obviously only read messages sent with TigerText but you don’t have the capability to protect your outgoing SMS. You can acquire the 250 SMS bundle for only U$S1.49 and also you have the unlimited option for U$S2.49.

Oh and in case you were wondering about why the TigerText name; there’s nothing to do with the Tiger Woods incident, the company explained that the name born because “Tigers are notoriously difficult animals to track” (?).

The My Book 3.0 ($200) offers connections using USB 3.0 which is ten times faster then it’s 2.0 counterpart. The speed is amazingly fast, pushing almost 5GB of data per second. The device also comes with a USB 3.0 card for you to install in your system, but it also work with 2.0 connections for other computers you might be connecting it to. The transfer rates alone make this device a must have for those of us storing large amounts of data and who access it regularly.

It’s an intriguing idea, but one that depends on having a large number of advertisers on the roster to compete with one another – and Bedrock will have a tough time dragging those people away from the traditional services, abandoning the freedom to use their own ads in the process. On the other hand, it does put more power in the hands of the publishers to control the content of their own website, and push the ad content that earns them money on their own terms – after all, they know their user base best, and can adapt to serve their needs better.
