Automattic Spurns $200 Million Acquisition Offer

Automattic, the company that created the Wordpress.com blogging platform and oversees the Wordpress.org open source project, has rejected a $200 million acquisition offer, say multiple sources. Half the price was to be paid in cash, half in stock in the buyer.

Automattic raised $1.1 million in capital and has also acquired Gravatar earlier in October. Additionally, Comscore has reported that Wordpress.com had 63 million unique visitors in September.

Since Automattic has been under pressure recently from investors to exit, there has to be a reason why they arent doing so. Thus for Automattic to reject a $200 million offer it must mean they have the idea of going public themselves. I dont want to see Automattic sell out after making such good applications non for profit.
