BitLet is an online torrent client that downloads the torrents for you without any torrent client. BitLet runs in java so there is no extra installing needed. This is also good if you don’t want to install a torrent client on your computer. Also it supports video streaming so you can download a torrent that is a video and have it stream. They also support streaming for music too.BitLet supports changing the port and even the upload rate. They also have a bookmarklet for Firefox and IE that allows you to download the torrent without having to go to the BitLet page. BitLet also has cool features like resume downloading, using a local or online torrent, and allows you to download more than one torrent at a time. They also show you your upload and download speed and even how many seeders and leachers. Most of the time the torrents will work but not always. I would recommend this to users who rarely download torrents and also to people who need to download a torrent but don’t have the time or want to install a client.. If you download torrents often then i would stick with whatever client you have.

GFI LANGuard offers an entire set of tools to audit, evaluate and remediate your network within just a few steps. With this suite you can complete full assessments in your organization about software and operating system vulnerabilities, security baselines and also provides you with the necessary instruments to solve them.

Some of the most important features in GFI LANGuard:

Powerful network scanning options without the need to deploy agents.

Reviews and controls vulnerabilities, updates/service packs status (for operating systems and applications), TCP and UDP ports open, and hardware and software inventory.

Remediation options for deploying updates and service packs.

Deploy applications in client machines and the possibility for removing unauthorized software.

Detect and deploy non-Microsoft software to protect the entire operating system.

Supports UNIX/Linux machines.

Installing and configuring GFI LANGuard can be executed in simple steps since the product was made to facilitate the complex work usually represents audit and remediate your network from vulnerabilities.

To review detailed step-by-step procedures check this link. Here are some of the basic steps:

1. Download GFI LANGuard.

2. Review GFI LANGuard system requirements.

3. Install GFI LANGuard with the simple wizard.

4. Once the product is installed, we can easily run the “Scan” option that will retrieve all the necessary information from our network and as we said, agentless.

a. We can select several types of scan: Quick, Full, Custom or Scheduled.

5. With the scan is complete, we’ll receive a full report about all vulnerabilities found in all OS in our network.

6. In the “Remediate” pane we have all the necessary options to solve the vulnerabilities found. Here we can execute immediate actions in clients like:

a. Install/Uninstall Microsoft patches.

b. Install/Uninstall non-Microsoft patches.

c. Deploy custom software.

d. Uninstall software.

GFI VIPRE Antivirus is one of the best solutions available in the market regarding operating systems security. With a lot of versatility, GFI VIPRE offers tons of options and configurations to deploy on client or server machines, plus is very simple to install.

Operating systems security against malware and virus is a key factor in every organization, even though most small or mid-size companies avoid this matter. GFI VIPRE Antivirus provides the simplicity and scalability any company should be looking for in security solutions.

Some of the most important features included in GFI VIPRE Antivirus are:

Simple installation and environment configuration: The platform does not require complex configurations. For a complete detailed step-by-step check this link.

Centralized management: Central console to administer all your clients and the possibility to delegate read-only permissions to operators.

Easy deployment: Fast and several options to discover machines, plus automatic deployment included. If clients are not available, MSI manual installation can be used.

Scalability: You can configure different sites and different policies that will be handled by GFI VIPRE Antivirus, making possible to protect all necessary computers with different options among them.

High compatibility: Windows 2000 SP4 or newer operating systems are supported as client machines (Windows 7 included of course).

Flexible reporting: Vast options to configure reporting within your environment.

Very low resources necessary: GFI VIPRE Antivirus represents one of the antiviruses that require a very small portion of your machine resources, making it completely silent and transparent to users.

Here’s a comparison from the most used antivirus and the CPU usage when a scan is running:

As a quick reference, here’s an overview about the process of implementing GFI VIPRE Antivirus (detailed step-by-step here):

Review requirements for server and client machines.

Define the type of machines and the behavior you would like to be present in the antivirus software, depending on the machine category.
This will be represented in the policy we can configure for each category we decide (for example: mobile computers will have a more restrictive policy than the workstations).

Install GFI VIPRE Antivirus.

Create and configure system policies to apply agent machines.

Add agents and validate VIPRE installation. The platform provides the possibility for automated installation and of course manual.

Run a manual scan in agents to validate current health status of your clients. Automatic scans in agents can be configured but we can also trigger manual scans whenever we need.

Generate reports using Report Viewer.

Configure any additional sites and permissions for different type of users. We can have simple operators to the platform using the GFI VIPRE console.

You can download the free trials for GFI VIPRE Antivirus in this link.

StarWind iSCSI software represents one of the simplest tools available in the market to facilitate the use of high availability –clustering- for your servers and services, like a web server hosting your site, without the need of acquiring expensive and complex hardware to do it.

Achieving high availability for services in organizations it is not an easy task, decisions makers in several companies do not consider this solution as viable considering the costs we have to assume in storage and the new layer of complexity added to our platform. StarWind iSCSI software appears to solve both of these problems.

StarWind provides the possibility to use a simple server with normal hard drives to act as an iSCSI (open Internet protocol) portal which is charge of offering remote storage to machines and easily transform those in high availability clusters for your services. Also, using Windows Server 2008 R2 we will see that the procedure to create a cluster if we are using StarWind iSCSI is really simple.

To create a Windows Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster using StarWind iSCSI software can be done within 5 steps (the complete guide available here):

Review requirements for the environment: Having one machine acting as an iSCSI server using StarWind software and at least to machines, same hardware baseline, to conform the cluster.

Install StarWind iSCSI SAN software: Easy step, just follow the wizard.

Configure and create storage within StarWind iSCSI: This application has a very intuitive console to administer the resources, so you won’t find much problem completing this.

Install Failover Cluster feature in machines and run validation wizard: The validation wizard will execute several tests to the servers in order to assure us that the cluster will be stable.

Create Windows Server 2008 R2 Cluster: A three-step wizard that, if we executed the validation without any problem, this wizard should complete in the same way.

You can download a free trial for StarWind iSCSI software from this link.

MirrorCreator provides a simple way to upload the same file you would like to share to 30 different hosting sites: RapidShare, Megaupload, Hotfile, DepositFiles, EasyShare, etc.

If you usually share files in the web, then there’s no way you’ve never used some of the most popular sites: RapidShare, Megaupload, Hotfile, DepositFiles, EasyShare, etc. But you should know also that sometimes the availability and speed of those hosting sites do not offer any guarantees; so why not upload the file to all hosting sites in one step and receive all the possibilities?

MirrorCreator simplifies the task and provides with one step to upload the file to all the hosting sites you would like. The site also gives us the limit upload on each site, so we can avoid any problem within the process.

After selecting the hosting sites and uploading your file, you’ll receive an e-mail (previously set) with all the proper links.

TinEye represents a very interesting web app which allows us to use reverse image search in the web: Upload the image and TinyEye searches around the web to find the same image source, modified versions or finding higher resolutions.

I’m pretty sure that there’s nothing similar in the web right now, and can help a lot of webmasters and bloggers to find if some images they’ve uploaded are being re-used by other people. Most certainly web and graphic designers can use it to protect their work.

TinEye has indexed almost 2 billion images from which they run the comparison every time we upload an image (this web app also can use the URL of the image as well).

TinEye is also available as a browser extension for Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

“Step 1: Select files”; “Step 2: Share” and “Step 3: Move on” says Ge.tt to explain the simple procedure for you to use this web app. No registration required, once you’ve selected the file, you’ll receive the public URL to share it. This one is already a short URL, so you can use it directly in Twitter.

Includes the option for registered users (registration is free of course) which includes a few more features: Files are not removed until inactivity for three months; you can add/remove the files you’ve uploaded; and you’ll get live statistics.

It also has some options for you to customize the text you are using: Font size, color and the outline color. After you’ve created the image, you’ll get the link to download the file as a PNG, simple as that.

Even though there is nothing magical about this web app, can be very helpful to create the logo with your Twitter username and placing it in your site.

This blog is in charge of analyzing the #FollowFriday (or #FF) recommendations to create this type of reports, in this case combining their Twitter users database (with over 11 million users) with FilterTweeps, a powerful web app for searching users in Twitter.

The results of the URL in Twitter profiles show a preference by users to insert their Facebook home pages, taking the 28% of the total users. The other sites in the list are: Blogspot, 20%; Myspace, 13%; Tumblr, 8.3%; Orkut, 8%; Twitter (why?!), 6%. You can find the entire list here.

2 billion e-mails are sent every day.

Brazil is the number one country for spams generation with 7.7 trillion (yes, trillions!) spams sent every year.

There are around 1.3 billion e-mail users.

The average size of an e-mail is 75KB.

Angeles Duran, 49 year-old woman from Spain, said to daily El Mundo that she registered the Sun as her property last week, with the presence of notary.

And how this woman came with the idea for claiming the sun? Well, when she read that in last September there was a guy who registered the Moon and other planets the idea came to her head. And additionally to that, there’s an international agreement which states that no country may claim ownership of a planet or star, but it says nothing about individuals.

“There was no snag, I backed my claim legally, I am not stupid, I know the law. I did it but anyone else could have done it, it simply occurred to me first.” said Angeles.

The official document where Duran is taking ownership of the Sun, declares the person as: “owner of the Sun, a star of spectral type G2, located in the center of the solar system, located at an average distance from Earth of about 149,600,000 kilometers.”

And after this, of course, she’ll be charging to anyone who uses the Sun. But wait, not all the money will be for her, she’ll spend only 10% of the funds for herself.

The good news is that I guess we now have someone to sue about skin cancer.

TeamViewer is one of the most know applications we can use to access computers remotely, their free version is quite complete and with no complexity for installing nor using it. The mobile versions represent a great tool if we need some quick access to remote machines, that’s why they’ve developed the apps for iPhone, iPad and now Android (beta).

Here are some of the features:

Support your clients and colleagues spontaneously.

Access your office desktop with all of its documents and installed applications.

Remotely administer unattended computers (e.g. servers).

Free for non-commercial use: support family and friends or have remote access to your own computer.

You can download the free app for iPhone, free app for iPad and the Android app (which is fully functional until January 11 of 2011).

Adidas Superstars represents one of the most popular models of the German company; and also is one of the most used today as vintage models of shoes. And now, for their 35 anniversary, they are preparing the Facebook and Twitter models.

Honestly I’m not quite convinced about all the “Facebook” included in this model, sounds a bit too much. On the inside they’ve also included the following “Facebook is a social utility that connects you with the people around you” and “Making the world open and connected”.

The Twitter model seems a bit better; they’ve included the Twitter bird logo and the original color used by the micro-blogging web app.

Glassdoor, company which collects information about employees in different companies anonymously and voluntarily, presented a report saying that people working in Facebook are not only paid more but also the social network offers a better work environment.

Here’s the rating for most important companies salaries in the software engineer category:

Google offers an average annual salary of $98K and Facebook for the same jobs is giving $110K, making this the most important salary around all companies; Cisco, Yahoo and Apple appears right after Facebook.

But that’s not all, work climate is an important factor in every job; and Facebook makes a difference in this area as well.

Based upon a 5-point scale, Facebook scores 4.6 as the top company in work environment; Google appears third with 3.9 (AOL and Apple appear fourth and fifth). And, surprisingly or not, HP offers the “worst” work climate raked with 2.7.

This is definitely not the first open source project for HTML5, but is the first which includes the support for subtitles in their videos. This is a nice feature for HTML5 videos, which are taking large steps to replace Adobe Flash as the preferred platform in websites.

LeanBack has several interesting features as weel, take a look:

Supports widely used desktop browsers and mobile devices

Supports also Microsoft Internet Explorer (≤8) and Safari (without Quicktime on Windows) by fallback to flash

Ability to handle more than one HTML5 video element on a single page

Javascript library independent

100% skinnable using CSS; consistent look between browsers

Multi-language support

Browser fullscreen mode; window fullscreen mode

Volume controls

Keyboard shortcuts on focused video (desktop browsers)

Different playback rates (currently in desktop browsers Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer 9 beta)

Supports preload attribute in desktop browsers to save traffic (using a fix)

Google just initiated one of the most exciting acquisition ideas: Trying to buy Twitter with the nice amount of $4 billion dollars, says Yahoo Finance.

Google made earlier an initial offer of $2.5 billion to acquire Twitter, but not only the micro-blogging service refused this offer, but also said that the amount suggested was “insulting”. That’s why Google is apparently analyzing to increase the bid up to $4 billion dollars.

According to the report, an important source related to Twitter said that 3 months ago they’ve received a similar offer of $4 billion dollars from an unknown buyer (Microsoft?) but it was rejected.

What do you think? Can any of these big companies actually buy Twitter?

Twitter could resist these kinds of bids, in the same way Facebook did?

Screenr does not install any software in your machine, works directly online using Java as the engine to record the video. The quality of the recording is quite good, and includes also HD support. The videos will be also available to run on iPhones and iPads.

Using this web app is also pretty straightforward; we only have to select the area of the screen and click on “REC”.

“So, you work at a big corporate, huh?
