Apple Watch Out, 6 iPhone 3G Killers To Look Out For

I came across a great article over at DigitGeek which talked about some of the potential phones that might be able to grab some marketshare away from the 3G iPhone.

  • Samsung Omnia i900 :

samsung-i900Samsung have really gone after the iPhone on this one, whatever the iPhone lacks the Omnia tries to make up for. The Omnia is powered by Windows Mobile 6.1 and sports an iPhone esque Multi Touch interface – Touch Wiz. It sports a superb 5MP cam and has everything that the iPhone does not – Flash, Video recording ( VGA at 15 FPS & QVGA at 30 FPS ), FM with RDS, A2DP. The audio quality is close in line with the iPhone 3G.

  • HTC Touch Pro :

htc-touch-proThe HTC Touch Pro is the most powerful and feature packed phone ever on Earth. It sports 288 MB RAM, coupled with a very powerful 528 MHZ processor. It runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro and features a very cool User Interface – TouchFLO 3D which is just as good as the iPhone’s UI. In addition it features many more softwares and games from the Windows Mobile stable. The 3.2 MP Cam with AF & Flash is much better than iPhone’s 2 MP Cam.  It combines style (Multi Touch) with usability (QWERTY) and is much more suited for office executives.

  • Sony Ericsson XPeria X1 :

sonyericsson-xperia-x1The Sony Ericsson XPeria X1 is a slightly underpowered clone of the HTC Touch Pro. It marks Sony Ericsson’s foray into Windows Mobile phones. It is slimmer and lighter than the HTC Touch Pro and with a supposedly inferior UI. It sports 256 MB RAM, a little lesser than the Touch Pro. It has a 3.2 MP Cam too, with Auto Focus, Flash and VGA Video recording at 30 FPS.

  • Nokia N96 :

nokia-n96The Nokia N96, though not a touchscreen phone, has everything you could ever expect from a phone. A superb 5 MP cam with Auto Focus and Flash, Video recording – VGA at 30 FPS, 16 GB Internal memory, A-GPS, a DVB – H receiver, a Dual ARM 9 CPU, 128 MB RAM, a brilliant 2.8″ 16M color screen – the list just doesn’t end. It is powered by Symbian s60 V3.2 OS v9.3 – The most popular smartphone OS ever. It has huge 3rd party application support, second only to perhaps Windows Mobile.

  • Sony Ericsson C905 :

se-c905The C905 is Sony Ericsson’s latest and greatest Cybershot. It will have a mind boggling; yea, hold your breath, 8.1 MP Super Cam with AF, Flash, VGA Video recording at 30 FPS and the likes. It is the best camera phone ever and gets precariously close to digicam territory. Taking awesome pictures is in its genes. It has 128 MB internal memory and theoretically supports up to 32 GB. It has all the other regular stuff like 3G, A-GPS, Geo tagging, WLAN, Bluetooth with A2DP etc. Like the Nokia N96, this one also doesn’t sport a touchscreen, but WTH! , does one need Multi Touch with all such features packed in?

  • The HTC Touch Diamond :

htc-touch-diamond1The HTC Touch Diamond is the current reigning iPhone 3G ass kicker. It will soon be surpassed by its successor, the HTC Touch Pro. It has similar features to the HTC Touch Pro – Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro + Touch FLO 3D, except that it doesnt have the QWERTY keypad and has less RAM – just about 192 MB. The only negatives with the Touch Diamond are the absence of a QWERTY keypad and the slightly laggy Touch FLO 3D user interface. You can check out the HTC Diamond review here.

These are not iPhone 3G killers they are iPhone 3G copycats! As far as I am concerned I wouldn’t buy none of them….

I hate it when I see webpages like this…. iPhone Killers! Why didn’t you state “iPHONE COPYCATS” Apple has the real iPHONE KILLER and isn’t it something….. everyone is “TRYING” to copy their idea but the problem is they will never be able to do it.

I don’t think Apple has to watch out for any of these phones…..

  2. Noel Saltmarche says:

I don’t believe the tooth fairy… not since I grew up.

  3. Steven Finch says:
@Noel Yeh i must agree, the Tooth Fairy is pretty lame!
  4. Mackerman says:

iPhone fanboys are just about as lame as the overhyped iPhone itself. I can’t wait for the Touch Pro to come out. I have the HTC Touch with Sprint right now, and it’s a great little devise, already better then the iPhone.

  5. veo_ says:

These phones are copy-cats, but you know what? Thats good! Apple has done more to advance the state of the art in mobile phones then anyone and all the other smart phone manufactures have to try to keep up. THIS IS FANTASTIC FOR CONSUMERS!

The difference between HTC models from before the iPhone came out and after is remarkable! The HTC Touch Pro is looking like a brilliant piece of hardware and software. Sure it’s a copy of the iPhone but it also has a physical keyboard and stereo bluetooth audio. I refuse to buy an iPhone because it lacks these features so the HTC Touch Pro is *BETTER* then the iPhone in my opinion.

The iPhone isnt all things to all people, so I’m glad there are others out there mimicking the iPhone but also correcting it’s omissions.

  6. JT says:

Yes, the iPhone is really increadable in what it can do and it is the best and easiest to use for a non tech savey individual. The touch pro’s UI is a copy cat of the iPhone but it will be a mush faster and feature packed phone. If you add up the features of both iPhone and Touch Pro any one would agree that the Touch Pro is capable of doing much more then the iPhone will ever do. The iPhone is fantastic but Apple has purposly left out many key features that a seriuos consumer should want. Also, even the 3G iPhone is still rather slow comparied to the ability of AT&T’s HSPA network. AT&T’s HSPA network is capable of 3.6Mbs in many major market and the new 3G iphone can’t even make it to 1Mbs. The Touch Pro will be better for surfing the internet and will have the ability to view flash websites. Also, there are a huge number of video and audio codecs that are available for Windows Mobile 6, a file manager, and more applications available. The Touch Pro will have the ability to view, edit and save MS Office documents.

  7. Tomy Hanks says:

Apple iPhone 3G is not a better successor of iPhone. While Ericsson C905 and HTC Diamond are far better than it.

  8. Steven Finch says:
But I think it is still the gimmic of Apple. The touch technology that the iPhone has it amazing, but more importantly is now they are opening it up fully to developers. Thats the key!

I’m sorry to disappoint you, but YES. These ARE copycats. The iPhone is run by one of the smartest, succesful, and well-designed businesses of the century. Apple Computers. I’m sorry but I think that any phone lots of companies copy is one good phone. The iPhone has everything a user will need. Why get a different one?
