It has been reported that Adobe will be releasing CS5 suite on April 10, 2010. Adobe has been working very hard on the follow-up to CS4 and below I have attached a sneak preview which looks amazing.

The first technology – the painting one, is interesting. The second is nothing new: it’s just the puppet tool from After Effects.

  2. Sean says:

Adobe has already made it clear any release dates set by anyone are false. They are going to ANNOUNCE the release date in 2 1/2 months.

I’m going to guess June 15th, 2010 and if someone sees this comment, and I am within 10 days of the release, they owe me 10 internets.

  3. Tom says:

If you purchase CS4 AFTER Adobe officially announces CS5, would you normally get a free upgrade from one version to the other?

I’m getting a new Mac Pro next week due to my old G4 tower dying after nine years use. I’m unsure whether to hold off with the CS software for a bit longer.

  4. bobo (staff) says:

build amac pro. you’ll better be with it kicks as like iatkos

  5. I’ll believe it when I see it. I think it will be a lot longer before CS5 makes its way to store shelves.

  6. User-experience says:

I think it’ll be released in October 2010, when the youngest PPC Macs are about four years old.
But I would be glad if it would make it April/May 2010.

  7. Jay says:

I have CS3 an was thinking of upgrading to CS4 for $599 (Design Premium). They are even doing 10% off that for a while.

I reckon it would be cheaper to do 2 upgrades than 1 whole purchase…

  8. ok… so this has been reported to be released… any new NEWS?

We hope to have more news on this in the coming week.
  10. bob says:

EVERYONE knows Adobe releases CS in 18 month cycles. This would put it right about April.

    WAIT TO BUY ADOBE CS

  11. painter man says:

the painter like brushes have been in use in the Painter program for years. This is nothing new to me. The warping is pretty cool though.

  12. I think the paint effect is pretty cool even if it is from other applications. I think the warping tools are really neat too for heavy comp work.

It would be nice to have CS5 around April although my work is still making the move from CS3 – CS4 on some machines. It would be worth waiting for CS5 if the dates are true…

  14. Luke says:

So let’s say… the release date really is April 10th 2010. Is it true that as soon as Adobe makes an official release date of CS5, and I go out and buy CS4 the next day… will I be eligible for a free upgrade?

How does that work? When is the window for me to purchase and get a free upgrade. I want to time this perfectly..

  15. Curtis says:

Luke, there are few guarantees in life… What you describe is true to Adobe’s past policies, but those who know the future are probably not able to disclose. Wait unit the release date announcement and check the policy then.

  16. Luke says:

Thank you, Curtis. That’s a smarter idea than just buying and hoping.

If I were to guess a release date, I would say Beginning of April.

  17. eric says:

That video is totally fake. The paint mixing part could have been done in Photoshop 2.0

  18. waverboy says:

I just think that this is going too fast. it seems that they just released CS4 not to long ago and then CS5 comes out? I havent even had a chance to learn the full features of CS4!

  19. PS Junky says:

I think that CS5 is not necessary. Upgrades to CS4 is more in line for the timing of CS5. By 2015 technology will be doubling every 6 months make the technology obsolete as early as 6 months past. The bubble is going to burst on new technology. The consumer won’t be able to keep up nor afford the constant changes. I think that some of the new technologies in CS5 should be a module that can be added to CS4. Buy what you need or want and add it on. Adobe and others alike must realize the money making cash cow of new technology is coming to an end. Its time to satisfy the consumer logically with affordability.

  20. Norman says:

PS Junky, you are crazy smart. You must have come from the future. Everything obsolete before you can lift a finger – that is just way beyond. ya – logically – I like that too.

  21. Max Surikov says:

I spoke with the Adobe support, but they didn’t say when or if the upgrade is being planned. I was intereseted in CS Master Collection and the upgrade policy. Sales agent said that when you purchase CS4 Suite you can purchase a maintenance plan which allows you to receive free upgrades for two years afterwards. Don’t know how much the maintenance plan is, but it is dependent on the CS package. If you purchase an educational CS package, there are no discounted upgrades. Every upgrade is at an educational rate which is about 60% below the full version cost.

  22. randy says:

When I went from CS2 to CS4, I had to pay the $600 fee for each generation (as in $1200). No advantage (like there used to be) in skipping a generation.

  23. Eric says:

I just had a chat with Adobe customer service, and I was told that you’re eligible for the free upgrade if you purchase less than one month before the release date. And I was told that we’re still more than a month from release of CS5, but of course I couldn’t coax out any details about the release date.

  24. Crag says:

I wouldn’t bother upgrading every generation. Im still using CS1. This will be my first upgrade in 6 years. I think thats about right for most users. Don’t waste your money.

  25. SCW-greg says:

Generally, two or more version back upgrades cost more than a one version back upgrade… and it holds true for the current CS4 Design Premium Upgrade. CS3 right now to CS4 is $599, older versions to CS4 are $799. And I would expect this shift to happen when CS5 rolls out… meaning, if you can time buying the upgrade to CS4 within 30 days of the CS5 launch, you’d save (in theory) $200. Of course Adobe may have other incentives up its sleeves to entice us to move to CS5 – in this economy.

  26. MikeyD3g says:

One of my best friends works for Adobe. He said CS5 comes out April 27th.
