Microsoft Buying Adobe?

The NY Times published recently a surprising event that took place in Adobe’s offices. A secret CEO’s meeting, Steve Ballmer from Microsoft and Adobe’s Shantanu Narayen, where they discussed the possibility about a possible merge and Microsoft taking over Adobe’s company.

Both of these technology monsters share a common enemy: Apple. Microsoft never had the chance to enter the mobile world and Adobe’s is struggling for not be forgotten since Apple decided they were not going to support Flash in their iOS (iPhones and iPads operating systems). And these are two big reasons for unifying and beat the same dragon.

NY Times also gives some details about this meeting, even though there’s nothing official, here are some of the topics of the meeting that took a little more than an hour: Adobe’s possible acquisition by Microsoft and possibilities for Microsoft’s Silverlight and Adobe’s Flash can co exist in the same operating system.

Specialists said that this acquisition could cost Microsoft 15 billion dollars.

What do you think? Can you see these two fighting against Apple?

The idea of a merger is sensationalism, I’d be surprised if these guys weren’t meeting to talk about threats and opportunities on a regular basis.

Im sure these CEOs meet all the time to discuss the markets they are entering into. However, I cant see Adobe selling, especially under the current CEO.

Business politics one guy acquires another guy nothing new. From another interesting stand point however, I can see this merger happening because:

    1) Adobe relies on various venders/distributors for allot of its technology implementation and it has also bought companies in its days.

    2) Their license deals are stale at best while some room for professionalism falls on their leading technology. There is allot of downfall on their overall success.

    3) Its a corporation run by a South Asian and I know from statistics we Asians are not the best when it comes to understanding economics on the global scale. Most likely this acquisition will happen, Adobe as it stands just doesn’t understand the ball game and adaptation is a very crucial thing for market growth.

Furthermore Apple is overrated, they stopped making computing a trend when they started going mobile. Its still struggling in the multi core business and it knew this would happen. One of Apples biggest problems is that it wants to wave the white flag over everything. Instead of acquiring or extending small companies it envelops them, trying to create technology that defies aesthetics but the core functionality is less then becoming of its rep. It lacks progress because it doesn’t understand the technical consumer, the consumer that makes use of their technology on a daily basis rather than throw it in the the trash, send it for repairs or replacements after a few months.
