How to Install Firefox 4 on Ubuntu

Firefox 4 is now available in beta and it seems that a lot of users are already making the transition. A lot of users have been having a little trouble installing the new Firefox 4 on Ubuntu, so we thought we would put together the guide.

At this time many Add-ons may not yet have been tested by their authors to ensure that they are compatible with this release.

Open the terminal and run the following commands

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install firefox-4.0

An easy way to download and install Beta Firefox 4 in Ubuntu could be found in the following link, where you can retain your last installed Firefox version, and can also use this new beta:

Everything went fine…but how do I open FF 4? There’s no icon or anything. Also, the system still has FF 3.6.

  it’s just called minefield – if go to internet and open Minefield (version) Web Browser. And you just still got FF3.6 too

Well, there is a fundamental flaw here, if you install it using sudo you install it as root. As such, you can only start it with using sudo firefox-4.0 in terminal… I realized this efter having the same issue as Pulkit here… running programs as root is not a good idea…

Ofc you need to use sudo to apt-get install something, but for some reason itt seems to install for root only. I circumvented this by instead using sudo aptitude install firefox-4.0 wich seems to work fine.

thanks, it works but instead of firefox 4 beta, I have to got Applications | Internet | Namoroka Web Browser and it shows version 3.6.13 pre.

to create a shortcut right click on desktop , click create launcher and in the command box put “firefox-4.0″

Instalação me atende nesta versão 4.0; mas os menus estão em outro idioma.( Ingles ), isto na versão para Linux, mas para Windows está normal em portugues.

Perg: Tem como configurar os menus do Firefox 4.0 pra Linux em portugues??.
