Could Ion Twin Video Dethrone Flip Mino?
The Flip Mino has won the hearts of hundreds of thousands of hand cam enthusiasts looking to record videos for YouTube, Facebook, or just capture quick video of their family outing. The devices quick USB plug-in made the device easy and fun to cart around. Yet, just recently another camera has stepped into the market and it offers just enough innovation that Flip might need to reconsider its status. There’s real promise with the Ion Twin Video, and as this is the first generation model, I can see this camera developing into a little powerhouse, especially with the features it has built in.

Record in-screen shots with the dual capability of the Ion Twin Video.
The Ion Twin Video is about the size of the Flip, but instead of one way recording, you’re offered an opportunity to record two ways, with one camera facing you and the other facing the direction of your subject. This allows for in-screen recordings that offer insight on the reactions of the recorder as they capture the subject. In the video they showed on their site, a few employees take the camera on a trip to a theme park where they record themselves on the rollercoaster, capturing both the ride and their facial expressions on the drops, along with other antics. Especially interesting is the sound is recorded in true stereo, which is unique to hand cams as small as this.
As you’re recording you are able to swap pictures, so take the focus off your subject and put it on you for a bit, and then return it. All this while recording, never missing a beat. You can also split the screen, or do PIP recording, and SDHC-compliant storage.
I’m still waiting for the HD version.
