America’s First Internet Addiction Clinic

computer_geekRecently, Crenk ran the story about the Chinese boy who was killed in a brutal internet addiction camp in China. Now, the first ever addiction camp for those who spend huge amounts of their time gaming or on the internet has opened up in Fall City. Suitably enough it’s called ReSTART.

It’s a 45 day program that is supposed to curb addictions to technology. Games like WoW and social networks like FaceBook are often criticized for causing college dropouts, insomnia and addictions.

It’s not cheap though. To stay the full length of the course it’ll set you back around $14,000 and worst of all, because gaming and Internet addictions are still unrecognised by most health services worldwide – it wont be covered by any insurance policy.

The clinic says that a change in physical appearance such as weight gain or loss, physical injury like carpel tunnel, straining, headaches or back aches are all signs of addiction. So is craving the Internet when on the move. This isn’t helped now with all the apps available so you can get your fix when at the park, on the train or even the toilet.

I’d imagine we’re going to see these popping up all over the States and it’s only a matter of time before they invade fortress Europe.
